pedro help
    #817083 - 08/14/02 09:40 AM (14 years, 6 months ago)

i pulled my cuttings out of the soil ( cactus mix), to see if they had rooted yet.
they had NOT. the cut end had started to disintergrate slightly, and there was a couple TINY white worms on it??? im familuar with garden pests to an extent, but dont recognise these. they were app 1/4 in long, or slightly shorter, very thin, and white. any idea's on how i can save these cuttings?

Whatever they are, you need to throw out all that soil, wash the end of the cactus off completely, spray it with some neem oil, then repot it in fresh soil in a clean pot.

I assume the cutting was properly dried and "calloused" before you planted it the first time. Do you need to re-dry that end again?

We have one....they are called Murple and psilocybe cubensis.

do i just cut it off, and cauterize(sp?) and leave it set a bit? i think that may be the problem, it wasnt calloused enough

it depends...

did the worms do any damage? like eat good chunks out and lay eggs? like if so, yes cut off a couple of cm enough to make good and flat and not have any bug remnents on it.

Then holld it upside down in something like a cup or whatever, and leave out in direct sunlight, it'll callous fast that way, just make sure no water builds up or stuff collects in that area first couple of days.

If it's already good and calloused, and when it does become good and calloused if not already you want to plant it back in brand new soil and pot like murple said, give it a good watering enough to soak all through the entire soil.

Then wait till it's completely dry and water some more, and allow to re-root over time. Perhaps a dose of wahtever good fertiziler you like to normally give it ( see other recent threads for that).

And bam, you got it back in business.
