Sterilizing the jars by oven?

There is a guy on irc.dal.net #mushrooms, who swears he sterilized his jars by the oven, on 400 I believe, for a certain amount of time. He says 9 out of 10 jars were contam free, and I'm curious as to wether this is really a tried and true method of sterilizing jars...

Sorry if this question has been asked before, I'm new.

your best bet if you don't have a PC then you should really look into getting a large pot and boiling them for like an hour or so. I've read oven's and microwaves are kinda skechy when steralizing.

I don't know how 'tried and true' that method is, but if he's using PF cakes then I suppose it's possible. I would want to put them inside something with water and a cover, though, so it's not much different than doing it on the stovetop. Oven seems like it would dry the jars if provisions for humidity aren't made.

Could work, though. My cat FAR prefers his pressure canner, though.
