Someone sent me photographs from their hunt today in a cow pasture, in Manatee county Florida.

Four coprophilous Panaeolus species:

Uh no spore photos yet.

Photo 1 is a type of Copelandia

Photo 2 is somewhere within the realm of subbalteatus, only one was found today

Photo 3 is antillarum

Photo 4 is what I would just group into the campanulatus complex

I guess they found and photographed around 25 different species of fungi in an hours time.
Mostly blue meanies.
Also a few of the large common Psilocybes.

I have heard of gastrointestinal upset with some people consuming non-active species within the genus. I guess we are all sort of unclear about why otherwise non-poisonous (sometimes even choice edible) mushrooms can do that to some people. Our current understanding of poisons inside of mushrooms is minimal. From a scientific stand point the chemicals contained in neurotropic mushrooms are not poisonous at all, so in a way the magic mushrooms are physically safer then non-magic mushrooms. Even though the vast majority of people that go to the hospital for "mushroom poisoning" in the state of Florida, are there after eating the funny mushrooms and think they are poisoned and are going to die.
