Is my WD External Harddrive dieing already?

I have a 400gig external western digital book HD. I've only had it about a year, and as of right now its making a horrible clicking sound about 3 times, then the "spin down" hard drive sound. I take it that its about to die or dead? Most everything I have is on it, and the computer still recognizes that it is plugged in, the bubble pops up for it in win XP, but no folder shows up for it in My Computer. Any suggestions?

Ahhh, and of course WD is no help, and it dies exactly 1 month after the warranty expires. Arrgggghhh my whole life is on there. Music, graphic design... I have a bunch of it backed up, but not all of it. I hope I don't have to turn to data recovery to get 300gigs of music back.

I've had many problems with external WD's.
I have had much luck in the past with freezing the drives to rescue data. I have a failed 250gb that I am going to attempt to retrieve data off in the near future.
I am not sure of the specific science behind it, but apparently the cooling/contracting of the metal platters can miraculously cure cancer or something.
I've put in freezer for 48 hours in external enclosure, run power & usb to laptop on top of fridge, and used restoration software to recover over 120gb last drive.
From what I understand, it doesn't always work, and depends on what is physically going on inside...but alot of people report success.
I was also suggested the program GetDataBack for my 250gb drive. I didn't think it would work because my drive does not appear in my bios when I boot, and when put in an external enclosure, windows does nothing at all to recognize it. Running the software, however, instantly mounted my drives like there was no problem, I just dont have a second drive yet to back the data on to...but I have a pretty positive outlook on things now.
I hope it works out.

Mine did the exact same thing. Believe it or not it's done it on several occasions.
The way I got my folder to show back up in My Computer was to use the safely remove hardware thing and then unplug it from the computer And from the wall for about an hour.
With yours however I don't know if you have to use a power cord to the wall or if it just runs on power delivered by the computer but mine connects with USB and has a power adapter that goes to the wall socket as well. I just unplugged them both and whammo the computer found all the files again.
It's worth of shot.
