First Flush Anomaly
    #8149125 - 03/15/08 11:44 AM (16 years, 10 months ago)

I have done my research but now am asking for specific opinions on my situation. I've got three separate casings, two Mazatapec and one Malabar. For some reason the Mazatapecs first fruits have been very small. Granted, the Malabar casing is a bit thicker than the Maz, but my first grow was a single casing with a substrate depth of half an inch and a casing layer slightly deeper than that. A whack ratio, that produced unexpected results (and is still putting out pins, over a month and 5 flushes later). So I don't think it has as much to do with substrate or casing depth.

The humidity stays around 90-95% with the help of an inch of perlite, temperature stays at 70-75ºF, and there are several holes drilled into the sides of the container for FAE. What is wrong here?

I have read many places of first flushes being disappointing, but then subsequent flushes being more bountiful. I am really hoping that's what is going to happen to these casings. The Mals are doing just fine, but the Maz... not so much.

Any feedback is appreciated.

No, it's a verm & coir mixture.

Of course it has to do with substrate depth...that and type of sub used.

That was my first grow... on a 8x8 in. glass baking dish with .5" of WBS, and .75" verm/coir. Those aren't exact measurements, but you get the idea. Very thin layers. Each of these Mazatapec trays I'm doing now are 1" WBS, .5" verm/coir. Yet it has smaller fruits by far on this first flush than the very thin casing. That's all I'm saying... I don't think the depth is my problem. I think it may be too big of a container to sustain an optimal atmosphere.. There are three 5x9" trays that fit perfectly inside a bigger plastic container.

I'm sticking to 20 qt. monotubs after this grow.
