I accidentally used the cardboard envelopes instead of Tyvek!

One of the pictures I saw of Tyvek looked like the cardboard priority mail envelopes so thats what I used by mistake. I have 4 holes punched on the pint sized jar lids. I only ended up using 2 of them to inoculate (since finding the holes through the tyvek was such a bitch!). My set up was lid with holes, cardboard i thought was tyvek with 2 holes from inoc and band-aids, and then finally the ring. I know there are already many posts on Tyvek out there but Ive read a BUNCH of them and none answer these questions. First off, what should I do now that I know I accidentally used cardboard? Is there a way to change it out? It seems risky. Im using rye with no top layer. Im afraid that the jars wont colonize without the breathing room. Would cardboard still let the jar breath enough? Secondly, are there any tricks to being able to find the holes through the tin lid under the tyvek? I was thinking about using a layer of dry verm on top like the pf tek instead of tyvek to keep contams out. then it would be easy to inoc, but nobody seems to do this. Is there a reason why? Thanks guys!

~Put the tyvek UNDER the punched lid....As far as your cardboard "filter" goes- isn't it soaked from PC'ing your jar?? ~Pixie~

hah! yeah. i actually messed a few things up. this was my first attempt. 4 out of 5 of the lids were wet when i removed them from the pc. i suspected that this was because of the jar's improper moister content. i had actually rinsed the rye after simmering, but now, i know to just let it steam to dry it out better. so i don't know if the jars are already fucked. i don't have any standing water at least. there is however light condensation on the inside. this is day 3 so we'll see what happens. as far as the cardboard goes, are you saying to take my jar to the glove box and actually interchange the lid with the cardboard? Also, I've read from RR that its bad to have the filter under the lid unless you have another one ontop. Thanks again!

~I think you should try to replace the lid/filter under as sterile conditions as possible..and as soon as possible. I can't see a soggy ass envelope providing any useful function. Whatever tyvek you are using will say tyvek on it. Damnit son...you get a gullhuahua for this first post. ~Pixie~

in the future, when in the post office on the outside of the flap in the top-left corner make sure it says DuPont Tyvek. DuPont simply being a brand name. I guess you have figured it out.

hah. does the gullhuahua mean im retarded? good thing its sunday and the post office is closed! i guess i'll do it tomorrow. I'm nervous about removing the lid entirely. that seems SKETCH. i'll try it though. so many things went wrong on this first attempt its kind of funny. i used a home made alcohol lamp and it totally charred the syringe with residue. then, looking for one of the holes, i completely bent the syringe needle. it was kind of a pathetic sight, me and that glove box.
i had an unrelated question if anyone wants to answer. how can you tell if a casings contaminated if the contamination doesn't happen on the myc but on the substrate which is hidden?

~Well as they say, "your first grow is just a learning experience". You'll do fine later and have some beautiful mushrooms as a prize. I know you don't WANT to change the lids, obviously this isn't an ideal situation, but I think leaving soggy-ass cardboard is going to do you harm.
If a Casing is contaminated you'll see it...I guess maybe I don't understand the point of your sencond question? If you can't see contams I don't know how much good it does to worry about it. ~Pixie~
