Mold in my house!! urgent *PICS*
    #8123013 - 03/09/08 11:04 AM (16 years, 13 days ago)

well holy fuck i moved some shit around in my house today to find alot of mold on my walls

i must say i am very dissapointed in myself for not noticing this before

there used to be a table here covering this up

holy shit guys

i found this and i went on a mold hunt in my house

then i pulled my bed out from up against the wall...

one more spot behind my entertainment unit in the bedroom

when i seen this shit my jaw dropped!!

it may not look like it from these pics but i do keep a clean home and i couldnt beleive this

i have been told to clean it with a water and bleach solution and then spray vigorously with lysol and then by the 4th cleaning it should be gone

but i dont think thats gonna cut it guys

im pretty sure i need to pack up my shit and move out

not only will this be a contamination hazard for my projects i am wooried about my health and the health of my wife and 2 yr old boy

this is not a house that i bought it is just an apartment that i am renting

i called the landlady a while ago and shes acting like its my fault!! WTF

shes like oh you should be cleaning the walls with oxy regularly its in the rental agreement

so i looked and it is in there! holy hell that means that she knew this place had a mold problem before i moved in

i havent been here very long maybe 8 months and when i moved in there was no mold anywhere..

could this mold actually be my fault from cultivating???(ive had bad jars but nothing that could have spread mold spores around like that)

will cleaning it with bleach and lysol make it go away??

should i be really worried and get my boy out of here ASAP or should i clean it and give my 60 days notice???

Pack up your shit and run like hell!

I would imagine if it has had mold problems in the past then there is some kind of moisture problem or a leak in the roof somewhere or something like that. I had a place that had a leaky roof and  it leaked in between the walls and mold would start behind the drywall and move to both sides (2 different rooms) and it never did go away. The leak got fixed but I think it was still growing inside the wall after that.

I saw them cleaning shit up after hurricane Katrina and they had to tear everything out all the way down to the frame when it was infested with mold like that, then they sprayed the whole frame of the house with a chemical, then reinstalled insulation, drywall...everything.

If I were in this hobby and didn't own the place I would defiantly move, if not for the hobby at least for your health...that shit can't be good for you.

That kind of mold causes respiratory health problems for you and your family, but rarely affects mushroom grows. My condo is full of the stuff, and I've been growing here successfully for years. Run a heater and fan on it to dry the stuff out. Once the wall is dry, the mold will die. Bleach won't kill molds. Look at your local home megacenter for a mold killing spray in the paint department. Another alternative is to make a paste with water and hydrated lime, and apply that over the mold.

I'm pretty sure that lease is void. It's unlawful to allow a tenant to move in and occupy a home knowing that there has been previous problems with mold and it hasn't been sufficiently repaired. That mold is in the sheet rock and will continue to come back time and time again until it's replaced. A judge by no means would allow that lease to be legal. As Roger mentioned, that mold can be hard on people, especially youngsters. I would talk to the housing authority in your area about that one for damn sure. That's just plain ridiculous.

Wow thats sick. And yes she obviously knew there was a mold problem if she included that you gotta clean the walls regularly with hard cleaners. I say take it to the authoritys, get your bond back, and move the fuck out. That shit is bad for your health, and she knowingly put you and your son at risk of having health problems for the rest of your life. I would be fucking PISSED OFF if i found that shit and i knew my landlord had known about it. Move the fuck out.

normally you would cut that section of the wall out then spray an anti fungal paint on the studs.... im sure you wouldn't want to do this unless you could replace... but in a mold situation thats how its removed... check ur fish tank there it might be leaking... but you definatley need to find the WATER SOURCE or it will keep happening

one more thing tell ur landlord to call her insurance company and they should send out someone with a water meter so they could find out where the water is comin from.

and its the landlords responsibility

also you see how its running along the wall there beside ur bed. that tells me that its wicking up the wall (from the floor) if u were to remove the base boards (you will have too) you will find a concentration of the black mold cause there is no air movement

used to work in water, mold and fire damage

is it my responsibility to clean this all up??

honestly ive known about it for 2 days and im kinda scared to clean it up

i dont wanna get too much of it in my lungs...

or stir up the mold spores in the house because that can probably ruin everything im growing right now

i really dont know what to do...

im thinkin i should go to "authorities" but im not really sure who i should call about it

the landlady just says "clean it up"

if i call her and tell her im not cleaning it and she needs to get a specialist here to work on it, is there anything i can say to "scare" her into making her do it

im already going to tell her that im not paying the rent until it is dealt with....

i dont want someone coming in and searching all over for mold and finding my mushrooms either

you don't have to pay rent...

i went 2 months rent free because the sink in my bathroom was broken. the landlord would kept putting off fixing it so i never paid rent.

mold is kind of a touchy subject with insurance companies cause most of the time its not covered. And the homeowner would have to pay out of pocket.

Just to throw this in there.. im sure ur landlord won't call the insurance company cause it will end up costing her lots o money.

also wouldn't recommend hitting it with a fan unless the room is sealed off (big piece of plastic over the door duct taped) because that will send the mold spores air borne. and anything they touch thats wet(ur shrooms) it will germinate on.

we used to cut it out wearing full tyvek suits and resperator then dry... with the room sealed off and then we would mop the walls with microban

crazy story a little off the subject but my first mold job was at a preschool(ironic). Anyway i walked into this classroom they had sealed off for the summer. Well the air conditioner broke and started leaking from the sealing. No air movement along with water creates some nice green white black mold over a three month time span... and alot of it! there was an inch thick green mold on the carper

the next part was kind of creepy but cool. everywhere the kids had touched(there finger prints) where everywhere. so there was little green finger prints all over the room.
i guess the mold was eating the dead skin cells weird but neat...

ghetto fix it for ya

find water source and fix it

remove things that have porous surfaces like mattresses anything you can't wipe down

get a few fans point them towards the mold turn on

then shut the door.. use plastic to cover the whole door and seal with duct tape

i would let the fans run for a week atleast. and you should vent it in someway or use a dehumidifier

get mask ,gloves, some rags some kind of disinfectant

wipe down everything .clean the carpets if you can.

mold is normally treated like a fire damage though, if the surface is porous and can't be cleaned they normally toss it.

You say appartment...

go talk to the neighbours, ask them about the leaky bathtub or washing machine.

had the same problem few years ago, when living in appartment.
Upstairs somebody's washing machine sprung a leak.
Out of the blue I had this huge mold spot in my bedroom.

Cleaned it myself, but if wanted, could have held neighbour responsible

Every house in my neighbor hood rolls like that. and thats just what YOU SEE.

the only way black mold can hurt you is living with it for a few years. And if you abuse any drugs, what-so-ever your immue system flutters like a gas gauge.

It will colonize the area between your frontal lobe and nostril, creating a black, pussy bi-product while it eats your flesh- that will raise the pressue level in your dome till something.... pops.

Your face can cave in due to that mycosis. There is a cool Law and Order episode where this dead dude in his home looked like he got his face smashed in, but really he had be exposed to some agressive black mold while abuseing drugs for a few years, combo'd with a poor (average american) diet.
