Cambo's Taking forever!!
    #8145075 - 03/14/08 07:50 AM (16 years, 18 days ago)

HI, My friend started growing the cambodian strain. and it took 5 weeks just to colonize! now its been in the FC for over a week, and the cakes only have little round bumps on them (doubt their pins) has anyone else had the same problem, and do they ever actually pin (at room temp) I mean he got the cambo strain cuz it is supposedly "so fast" but it seems so slow!

My cams have colonizes the jars fast.
2 are 100% after 12 days and the rest are around 60 to 70%

well his jars we are room temp for about a month then went into an incubator for a week, so maybe that explains that. but i mean shouldnt you at least see pins after like 7 days?!!

They're a little unpredictable. I find you need to incubate them at a higher temp to see that quick colonization; however, when they enter the FC, I didn't see much temperature differentiation, in fact, room temp seemed fine. There could be other reason to why it's not initiating pinning but just give it a few more days and be patient.

could be genetics, you may have ended up with a very slow dominate strain, just be patient. it will (probably) start pinning soon if you quit messing with it

Yea, my first grow with Cambodians was slow too.
My jars were a little too wet which slowed things down.
Then, I birthed as soon as the jars were totally colonized, so the jars then sat there for a week getting themselves ready to pin. So, I had to dunk again even before the first flush. I did get a flush and a half from them (small, but not true aborts), and junked them early because they apparently didn't like the wet cake.

A bit more fickle than B+'s but my grow came out more potent than the B+ (I know, I know...).

i inoculated 6 full pint BRF jars on March 8. Then inccubated at 89deg F for a few days, decided that was too high, lowered it to 83 three days later. Today i checked and each jar has a few quarter sized mycelium patchs on them. They all looking good. So that was about 5-6 days to germinate. Well see how long until fully colonized.

/oh yeah, these were Cambos aswell, from spores101.com
a few jars are fairly rhizomorphic aswell, im proud so far.

most likely a weak geno. i'm quite happy with a very vigourous isolate i've come across. fat rhyzomorphs even in jars of grain.

stick to it and you will be able to continually refine your strain to your liking. my cambos went from moderate to extremely vigours in the course of a couple grows.

good luck

hmm. interesting, i figured the first grow would be slow and probably be small as well. my friend will have to clone i guess. what i'm wondering though is if he didnt dunk long enough (like 6 hours) should he redunk? also would he be better off just spawning it to some coir he has? and if so do you get better results if you mix coffee in the coir? and do you use grounds or actually coffee? sorry its his first time

yes using spent coffee grounds in your coir will help with the nitrogen in the coir. adding gypsum will help stabilize your ph as well.

if you are looking to spawn to coir oatman has a great tek: http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/6004845#6004845

good luck!
