Have a pin nose-diving into perlite as if it were a Chuck E. Cheese ballpit, help!

Well, I have read to put waxpaper underneath it, but I haven't any, so instead, I used a piece of aluminum foil, which he is now touching. My question is, is foil bad? will it reflect too much light and make that pin + even more shrooms begin growing towards it?

my guess is the foil is the culprit. do you have a black plastic trashbag you can cut up and put under the cake? pretty much anything that will keep the perlite off the cake AND not reflect too much light will work better than aluminum foil. as for that cake, there's not much you can do now. if i recall correctly, while light is needed for pinning, shrooms don't adjust their grow towards it (like plants) after the initial pinning.

foil isnt bad, but yes, in your situation, the foil is attracting the mushie..
try better lighting above, or if this has been proven adequate, then thats just the luck of the draw.
if your other fruits are fine, no worries, this one will either sag into the perlite completely, or twist itself back around.
quick suggestion: can you lift the cakes off the perlite/foil? like a solo cup in half, bottoms up, an let the cake sit on that.
becuase if the pin sits in the wet-soaked perlite for too long, it will develop bacteria blotch.
