lc to substrate
    #8143906 - 03/13/08 10:11 PM (16 years, 10 months ago)

would anyone suggest against LC inoculation of a bag consisting of 2lbs of 10% poo, 50% straw, 40% verm or 10% poo, 40% coir, 50% straw?

I would prefer using LC instead of spawning with grain.

if the sub was brought to field capacity and then inoculated with say 30cc of LC would that be fine?

you really want a high nutrient spawn to support any low nute substrate which is all you have in that list there... you'd probably get something mediocre at best just using a LC... plus you would have to use a shit load of it to get to the spawn/bulk ratio that you're really looking for... we are looking for speed with substrates that are pasteurized and you're not going to get that with straight LC..  contams would be a big issue.

LC is best used on grain--->bulk substrate..

others may have other views, but thats as I see it.

ic

what if I used 20% wbs and some other crap to make my substrate rich sterilized it all and then inoculated with LC?

you could just take the bulk subs out of the bag and just use the bags for grain spawn. are they normal spawn bags?

filter patch, large

I was thinking of doing a couple large grain bags for grain spawning.

Adding enough LC to have it work would destroy your water content ratio. Sure, you can over water a jar of grains by a small amount, but a substrate that is overly wet is a place myc waits to be taken over by other baddies. The odds of you actually having enough biomass in the LC itself to establish growth in a substrate is nill at that. Like Fal is saying, there isn't enough nutes, and to have an LC with enough nutes to pull that off would be like syrup.
