I have a monotub created 18 days ago its 8 quarts wbs (S.A.cube)spawnd to 7qrts coir and verm. i wraped it up in a blankit since then, to not let in any light(or so i thought) i look at it today for this first time to see that only about 20% of the top is colonized and there is a uneven pinset mess. When its fully colonized and pins i would noramly case or just introduce to fruiting conditions. But now i dont know what to do with 80% of the top layer not tuched by myc.Can i even fan or mist?Any advice... help?

that sucks! your in a dilemma there. even if you choose to just fruit it, the myc will grow very slowly during fruiting and the uncolonized parts may contam.
i would just keep it incubating and pick off any shrooms that fruit off it. or maybe chuck it...
or maybe you could pick off the pins, take out the colonized portion and use it as spawn for another mono! or even mix it around (be really careful with cleanliness) to redistribute the myc.
sory i kept geting more ideas as i typed.
good luck with that!

pick the pins, let the whole thing colonize. dunk it if it takes too long to finish colonizing.

Hey sonicnirvana what town are you from, i live in . I wouldn’t want to redistribute the spawn i tried coir to coir once before and it sucked. That was enough for me to not do it again. Quote:

have you ever tried to dunk something that wasnt fully colonized? MUD.

Sorry to hear that man.
On a side note I'd hate to have that happen to me on my current 1st mono, but I'd like to see some pins later @!!
Good luck man!!!

Just let it fruit... you will get the same yield as a full pinset. Enormous pinsets only give you tons of mediocre mushrooms, whereas small pinset's give you a dozen monstrous mushrooms plus. Just relax, take a deep breath, and let mother-nature takes its desired course. good luck!

My opinion would be also let it do what its doing. If you get a mature shroom off it before it; 1.fully colonizes or 2. it contams, which is going to be the more likely result to expect but toss it out either way. If at 18 days your 20% colonized then at 100% colonized you will be at 90 days. Do not count on that tub fully colonizing, period. Next time don't use the ratio you used, 8qt WBS to 7qt COIR, you don't need nearly that many qts to spawn your substrate(check your tek). To me it sounds like your WBS its self took forever to colonize, so you though you would use way more wbs and hope to over come the slow mycelium, it doesn't work that way. But if thats not the case next time use some "shit" by its self or add some coffee additives to your coir.
Good Luck!

My mono did something like this to me as well. I let it go untouched until the early guys were mature, at which point I took them off. Not two days later though, the myc came up in the uncolonized portion and I really didn't end up with a terrible pinset. Good luck, I hope it works out.
