Compressing your substrate
    #8137756 - 03/12/08 04:47 PM (16 years, 10 months ago)

I am only quoting the book so dont hang me. It recommended pressing/compacting your substrate. It even said some commercial growers use a mother fucking hydraulic press to do so, so dont tell me! I see it as more being able to fit more nutes in a given amount of space. I was planning on using just my hands (straw and stb poo or maybe straw and coffee) cause I read in the book it was a good thing to do and never did I see something to contest the information on the forum, until now.

the book -> The mushroom cultivator

and Im back. OK so RR says if I use a dept of more than 12 inches with just straw it might get lil stuffy in the middle ie no air. and deep than 6 inches with horse poo and it will compact too much? Dont worry would never dismay RR advice being that hes the only one that really nails any of my questions

So I think I can get away with 12inches of straw mixed with whatever. I REALLY NEED some insight about this heat generation thing. I plan on adjusting my tub to fit a thermometer middle of the substrate to keep an eye on things but I rather not be surprised vs someone giving some advice from the been there done that perspective
