Please tell me this is normal
    #8132440 - 03/11/08 03:36 PM (16 years, 10 months ago)

So my cakes have a weird fluffy white myc on them. I remember I post where a guy said he peeled some off and there was green under it, indicating mold. Well, I tried that and mine was fine. So what the hell is this? Its just pure white.

Also, here is a picture of my only pin for the cakes so far.

So you don't think it's a contam? It's just dry?
It's getting about two mists per day and fanning around three times. It's very humid too.

Nah, that's just what it looks like from that angle.
So you guys reckon I'm alright?
Just keep up more misting and fanning and I'll be okay?

How are you providing air exchange? How many times are you misting/fannig?

Like I said just before I'd be misting twice daily and fanning somewhere around three times, maybe more.

Is that okay? I have one shroom that's probably about 3" tall, and a small pin on the same cake. But none of the other cakes are doing much.

If it was too dry you would see some bruising start to develop, plus in your first pic I see water droplets on the cake. I would guess FAE, or just give it more time.

If they are dry... hard to tell from those pics but they do look pretty dry... and if they are dry... you need to do more than just mist a couple of times a day and fan a couple times a day. They need MORE than what you are currently giving them.

After this flush... be sure to do a full dunk and roll... then add a layer of verm directly to the top of the cakes and water the verm layer daily. Also mist more often.

These are mushrooms for God's sake. They are a sub-tropical fungus. They like a LOT more rain and humidity than many newbies think. Do not be afraid to MIST THE CAKES DIRECTLY until you see knots and/or pins. Just don't be forceful. Think rain... not garden hose.

WATER is the MOST IMPORTANT PART, once your cakes are colonized... water followed by fresh air exchange.

Fan hourly as often as your schedule allows... if fanning provides the only FAE.

Okay, thanks heaps for that dude. I'll make sure they get a nice long 24 hour dunk after this flush.

Well, just from keeping the temp up a little and doing a bit more misting the two pins have grown heaps today. Hopefully tonight I'll see some other cakes developing.

The cake should be okay, as long as it keeps getting moisture and lots of fresh air

Good luck with your grow

BEWARE for FAST growing PILLOWY/FLUFFY/COTTONY growth. That would most likely indicate trichoderma. Hairy, fine fuzz, with a grayish tint would indicate cobweb mold.
Peace.

I have defintely had white/fluffy/cottony stuff that wasnt a contam so this isnt necessarily true.
