Easy way to process straw
    #8130772 - 03/11/08 07:12 AM (16 years, 10 months ago)

The last time I sat down with a pair of scissors to chop up some straw it took me roughly an hour to fill two 5-gallon buckets and I also wound up with some extremely sore hands. The other day I was cleaning my garage and I found the shredder attachment for my leaf blower so I decided to see how it worked on straw, and it did an awesome job.

Weapon of choice...

Straw in its original form...

You may need to take handfuls of straw and stuff it into shredder because it has a hard time sucking it up due to the length of the pieces of straw but you should end up with something like this after the first pass...

Empty the bag out on the ground and suck the straw through the shredder and it should look something like this after the second pass...

Empty the bag out on the ground and suck it through for a final pass and it should look something like this...

I now have a 55 gallon trash bag of straw that is processed down to less than an inch and a half in length and it only took about 30 minutes to process three quarters of a bail of straw. Needless to say I have thrown my straw scissors in the trash and do not plan on ever buying another pair...
