well, Im new here so hello. I searched the forums but couldnt find this, so sorry if it has already been answered. Anyway, About a year ago I got my first batch of mushrooms, about 2 ounces of unfiltered cubensis. I thoroughly enjoyed myself, and recently have been trying to get a hold of some more to no avail. Because of this I have been seriously contemplating cultivation. Long story short, I was forced to move out last weekend and while I was cleaning out my closet I found a bag full of dirt and all that lovely stuff mushrooms grow in along with a fair share of tiny mushrooms. Id guess about half an ounce. I guess this was the bag I disposed all of the garbage that I filtered out of my two ounce bag of shrooms. So I was wondering if these mushrooms would still contain spores or not and if It would be possible to grow mushrooms from them. Thanks for your help

i read a post here recently about someone trying to inoculate with 'shake', cant find it now that i look... am pretty sure the advise given was that you'd want to use the shake to inoculate agar, grow it out of any contams and isolate before using it on any brf cakes, grain or LC.
i know i read something else on rehydrating the mushrooms themselves and taking a tissue sample to grow out on agar but i cant find that either although i did find a post advising the agar be made on the 'wet' side (by using 2/3rds the agar required int the recipie) to rehydrate older spores
you might be better off just getting a new sporeprint/syringe though... HTH and good luck

How does one filter a mushroom? Are you trying to smoke them or something?

not much lasts more than few months in this hobby unless you've properly prepared it for fridge storage
the mushies growing in your garage could be some wild ones i.e. potentially poisonous
filtered mushrooms?
cop!

unfiltered, as in someone just grabbed large portions of mushrooms growing in a pasture and didn't bother to separate the mushrooms from dirt shit and grass.
anyway, thanks drftNV It seems it would be easier and more effective to just buy a syringe

I'm no expert, but you might be on to something here
You see, if you have ever purchased a shroom kit, you can see the parallels here. The kit's come with substrate(treated peat moss), a bag of seeds(no clue what the fuck they are) and the supposed spores.
Now the spores inside the kit are actually just baby mushrooms. There's no telling how long a kit will sit on the shelf, so it seems to me that those baby mushies contain all the spores one would need. All you do is unzip the bag and mix the babies in with the seeds. After awhile, the mycelium colonizes the bag and then you mix in the substrate.
While any true cultivator would frown upon the overpriced kits, they do work in this manner. So maybe those old ones might be a bit useful. PC your mix and then see if it works by mixing in some of the smaller unopened caps.

there should be some sort of entry level test that people should have to start taking before they can post here.

You're better off buying a sterile spore syringe from a Shroomery vendor, than with an old bag of mushies.
