inoculation question

If i have multi pore tape over my holes, can I inject directly through the tape? Also how important is it to re cover the holes? Im doing brf jars

i wouldn't inject through the tape unless you are certain that the tape is STERILE.
you do not have to re-cover the holes, but multi pore tape shouldn't hurt and it may help.

back when i thought cakes were cool, i put tape on, pressure cook. inject thru tape. then another tape over it.
then when say 50% colonized, i take off all tape.

The problem with injecting through the tape is if you flame then inoculate immediately the needle will be red hot and get messy as hell from the melted glue and tape. FME its easier to peel the tape off right before inoculating each jar. You can leave it off or put new tape on but if you have a good dry verm layer you're fine without the tape.

it doesnt get messy. not one bit. i do red hot inoculation for cakes.

I always ended up with a lot of sticky residue on the needle that I had to clean with alcohol often so I just started taking the tape off, 100% success with no tape after inoculation.

yea no tape at all is good as well. as long as all jars stay standing upwards.
