ok so malt extract seems to be non existant in some areas (mine) so i have asked if and why carnation brand malted milk can or cant be used for LC's... one other thread on the boards... someone said try it and report back... nobody did.
Obviously you cant use it because of the milk, Right? Plus it would be cloudy and you couldnt tell if it were growing or not... Contam risk... bla bla bla... Well I though it through... Milk skins when kept warm right? So on that notion I took and made up 1L of distilled water and 2 heaping tablespoons of this...
Mixed it all up, and put the mix into the top half of a double boiler and let it heat slowly... I simmered for 30-45 minutes until the liquid had reduced to half, and a skin had formed on the top. I skimmed the skin off and filtered the remaining mixture thru coffee filters into a water bottle to see what I got. It was still cloudy, so I was bummed. I sorta gave it up then and there... A few days (3) later, i came across the bottle in a cabinet and much to my surprize the Liquid had seperated like this...
So again my experiment was on... I again filtered the liquid thru coffee filters to get a Clear, Dark almost Beer looking Liquid that smelled highly of MALT!!! (didnt get a pic of it) So I extracted 10cc in a syringe and mixed it with 700ml Distilled Water, to get a beautiful looking LC In My Opinion. I PC'd for 45 minutes @ 15 psi and it came out golden brown... 10cc of the Malt Liquid is too much for 700ml but I went with it... Here are a few pics of the LC 1 month later... Bamboo stick added to LC so strain could be perpetuated in Agar slants
This is Psilocybe Azurescens Hammond Strain Flying Saucers LC made from Carnation Malted Milk Note the large Myc. Mat growing on the top

a colonized stick in an agar slant works wonders to save a strain in perpetuity... Plus malt grows much faster and more vigorously than karo... i havent even got karo to work... Ive got honey, Stevia extract and Malt to grow... I actually prefer the stevia leaf extract I have a few of them

but thats not a cuture slant its an LC, do you always add the stick?
makes sense about the malt, stevia extract eh? got a link or meathod to that and have you found that to increase potency being used in LC and not in the sub?
