I put 3 pf style cakes into my FC 5 days ago (after a 12hr. dunk and roll). A couple days ago I noticed a little bit of blue (im pretty sure its not green) and after a day or two the supposed "brusing" hasnt really left, its still about the same light tint dark blue. Today I read in the contamination forum that you could test if it was a foreign culture by rubbing a q-tip gently on the colored area, and if it was mold, youd have color on the cotton of the q-tip. Luckily, I didnt notice any color on the end at all.
Two Questions:
A. Is it wrong of me to pick up the cakes and look at the surface for knots?
B.Is it typical for brusing to occur before knotting/pinning?
This first pictures have one of the cakes with the light "brusing" on it. (this is the best i could focus with my digital camera)

The second has an area where I touched the cake, began to bruise.....i hope.

Heres a far away shot, see the bluish tint on the myc??

p.s. Couldn't find any post w/ pics similar to mine....unless it is brusing....

Whoo! I'm glad it is. Rather be safe than sorry...
Is this healthy for myc to be doing this?

Yup, it's bruising. Nothing really to worry about there. I don't really know, if you always touch your cakes only at the top side like you do in the pics, but the big blue sport seems to be caused by "rough" handling.
If the bluing appears without you touching the cakes, you have a problem with your humidity, since bruising is a sign for a lack of water in the air.
IF it's not your handling, spray your cakes more often.
Your should be fine!

Some change in my cakes. some growth over the heavily bruised spot, but...there seems to be more brusing!!!!
my question...
can this brusing be the result from direct misting?
at first I read that direct misting wouldnt harm the myc (such as dew in nature) but I've also read that it can cause brusing.....
anyone have any experience?

yes you should be indirectly misting meaning mist above the cakes and let the mist gently fall on them.

well i thought that was also considered to be direct misting. Thats what I've been doing 90% of the time, I believe I did directly mist them on the bad brusing tho....
