Politics? Anyone Else Hate It?

Am I the only white guy with an absolute zero interest in politics? I feel like a black sheep in the white community with everyone sportin their Ron Paul stickers and listening to NPR. For the life of me, I just really do not give a damn about politics. Give me a National Geographic or some Animal Planet any day over The New York Times.
Anyone else like this?

While everyone's asking me what I think about this and that, I just and go back to reading my National Geographic about naked people and panda bears.

Foreign politics are interesting to me, but thats because it's not the same shit that we hear about everyday from the newspaper and tv.
i agree though, listing to politics just wears me out. So much childish behavior from our "leaders".

A clear definition of the word 'politics':
"Politics is the process by which groups make decisions. It is the authoritative allocation of values. Although the term is generally applied to behavior within governments, politics is observed in all human group interactions, including corporate, academic, and religious institutions. " - Wikipedia
Anyone who 'hates' politics should go live alone in a cave somewhere.

For a group of people who want drugs legalized, you'd think more shrooomerites would be into politics, to some degree. At least on a local level.

I don't like discussing politics but do pay quite a bit of attention to it. I try to leave the discussion of politics to the TV because most can't discuss politics or accept that someone has legitimate reasons for believing what they believe. I vote to protect my rights and liberties, but also for my financial future. A bankrupt nation has no rights or liberties.
Also, too many people like to regurgitate the same BS they heard someone else say. Too often outdated or irrelevant. I prefer to go to the source or to have some background understanding of my own with specific issues. It really makes political discussions dull without well informed individuals.

I was doin some thinking about politics this morning and I think I got it all figured out.
I think the reason I hate politics, has something to do with me being a really smart person and being above it all.
I can rest easier now knowing that the nations foreign affairs and internal struggles do not concern me because I am a fully realized being.

In all honestly, I can't tell what your post is about. You're obviously misinterpreting what I said about rights, and you're trying to call me out, but I can't make sense of your post to really respond to it directly.
I'll answer as best as I can.
I didn't contradict myself. I said that I try to avoid political discussions. I'm very particular about sources and verifying information. In most "street" political discussions you have a wealth of unsourced information... Bullshit.

Alex Jones sort of summarized how I feel about the whole situation in Waking Life - The 21st Century is gonna be a new century, not the century of slavery, not the century of lies and issues of no significance...and classism and statism and all the rest of the modes of control! It's gonna be the age of humankind... standing up for something pure and something right. What a bunch of garbage-- liberal Democrat, conservative Republican. It's all there to control you. Two sides of the same coin. Two management teams bidding for control for the C.E.O. job of Slavery Incorporated!
I don't know - that's just what I think - politics are garbage, just a means of control

As much fun as it would be, people can't - or rather, shouldn't - be apathetic about politics. I would love to sit back and read some National Geographic, too, but I bet if you think about it, almost every issue has politics tied largely into it. February 2008, for example - about illegal aliens crossing into Mexico, about a minority in Afghanistan, about the dryinh up of the western United States - politics and policy all feature heavily in them. The point that I'm trying to make is that politics is just a part of our everyday lives that can't and shouldn't be ignored. I say good for the college kids getting hopped up over Obama, Clinton, Ron Paul, McCain, whatever! At least they're getting involved, and trying to help shape America into their idea of how it should be run. Who I agree with, that's another argument... Politics can't be ignored even more so in this age of technology, which allows to get to one side of the Earth to the other in a few hours, and lets you send messages which would, in earlier centuries, take days or weeks or years instantaneously. Politics is becoming globalised, too. Ancient peoples in Africa may not have known or cared who came to power in Russia, but now, with Russia exerting increasing influence over Europe and others, the whole world cares. Even tiny Kosovo, which is, frankly, a shithole, is being fought over by much larger powers. So, in the end, politics is very important, perhaps one of the most important issues of them all, since out of politics and policy-making stem all of our problems, our attitude towards global warming, famines, droughts, civil wars, and otherbig issues. Or maybe not our attitude, but certainly the attitude of the ruling party, or person.
Just my two cents...

I couldn't agree more... Those who claim they don't care about politics are the first people bitching and moaning when they lose their house because ether the tax hikes sky rocketed, or some Indian group wants to take their land and put up a bingo hall, and a smoke shack. Screams of outrage come when some law enforcement agency is kicking down their door in the middle of the night. Thats when you hear the cries of LEGALIZE IT... Thats not supportive of your argument. Do you usually talk shit with nothing but hot air to back it up?
At least when I call Michael Moore a biased, exploitative asshole I can back it up when questioned.

I just feel like lying is now part of the political game. Ron Paul seems to have good ideas, but I can't help but be skeptical. And I just feel there's no way he is going to win. Hey if he does win, and he's not full of shit, well than thats great.
And Michael Moore is a biased fuck.

Be skeptical but I don't think he's a liar. I should've been more skeptical of Obama. I did my research and found Ron Paul to be the one with integrity in his voting record.
Ron Paul = The exception.
Even if he don't get in the principle of voting for the guy who represents still stands.

Heh.
So you don't mind at all that he bitched and moaned about pork, but added stuff for his district to every appropriations bill that passed his desk?
No big deal? Just a little double-talk?

I just read through a few pages on this.
I found this comment interesting:
"Earmarks do NOT increase the amoung of money being spent in a budget, they request that certain portions of the already requested amount be “EARMARKED” toward certain projects and concepts. PORK is tacked onto a bill to get additional funding for something often times unrelated to the bill. PORK is unconstitutional. Earmarks are not. So jp, your argument has a blinding fallacy in that you fail to understand what earmarks are in the first place. Essentially by passing on the earmarks but voting against the bill, Paul is saying, “I disagree with this budget but if it passes I want to make sure my district receives their fair portion.”"
Sounds pretty fair to me.
This too:
"This all you can find on him?
He ends up voting against the bills but if they pass atleast his district has something.
THERE ARE MORE IMPORTANT ISSUES THAN THIS. So why don’t you try focusing on them?"
I'm reading more on both sides of this argument....

I feel like tv/media has turned us into voyeuristic onlookers. Everyone feels there are just watching this big show happening all around them but that somehow they have nothing to do with it and as soon as they click their remote and turn off the tube, it no longer affects their lives.
I was watching The Revolution Will Not Be Televised (i recommend it) this weekend and it was fascinating as fuck to see how a nation of people came to understand their constitution and do all they could to defend it. When an illegal coup came in to overthrow Chavez, the people didn't stand for it. They knew it was unconstitutional and within days they sent the new government running for the hills with their heads between their legs.
It would be a start for every single person in every nation to know their fundamental rights as citizens of their country.

You do realize that if the district congressman does not earmark the funds that money goes back to the federal government and gets spent anyway. As a congressman he represents the people in his district.
He's against the earmark system but since it's the current system in place he has to use to appropriate Tax money back that was taken from the people in his district. That money is spent on projects of the people's choosing. As a congressman in this current system it is his responsibility to represent the people in his district the best he can.
Not putting earmarks on Bills does NOT lower spending. Earmarking bills for his district in this current system so the people get their fair share of tax money back does not compromise Ron Pauls integrity. He's against the system but it is the current system.
Should he leave his district raped by the government with nothing? It adds to his integrity that he fulfills his duty to the people as a congressman for his district. As President he would get rid of the earmark system which is why he votes against it.
