50/50 amount per jar?
    #8123854 - 03/09/08 04:21 PM (16 years, 10 months ago)

I know this is a dumb question but I couldnt find a specific answer through searching. I was just wondering if someone had an exact recipe of 50/50+ per quart jar, water and everything. Also how much hydrated lime per quart jar? Thanks

I'm not sure if there's a recipe, but it's abundantly simple to wet it to field capacity. When you squeeze your hand and apply pressure to the casing layer, and a few drips of water fall out. You're there. I'd mix it in a big bowl, and then place it in the quarts to sterlize/pasteurize whatever. I've never used 50/50 just MGMC so I can't really answer the lime question, but I know it's been raised many times before on this board.

this is my recipe for 3 qrts of perfectly hydrated casing mix:

6 cups peat
6 cups verm
3 3/4 cups of water
6 teaspoons of lime
6 tablespoons of gypsum

so for 1 qrt it should be approx:

2 cups peat
2 cups verm
approx 1 1/8 cups water
2 teaspoons lime
2 tablespoons gypsum
