PF Tek - Full Pint Jars okay?
    #8120792 - 03/08/08 06:45 PM (16 years, 10 months ago)

I used full pint, rather than 1/2 pint jars for my first PF Tek grow.  The jars seem to be colonizing well, but I am concerned that, because they are larger, they might be ready to fruit before the jars are fully colonized.

Is there any problem that might arise from using the larger jars?

As long as you keep them out of light they won't begain to show pins. The only thing you need to worry about is contamination getting in the longer time it takes to colonize.

I'm working on my second grow. I used 1'2 pint jars the first time. Now I'm using both 1'2 pint and Pint jars.

just fine. you could even go bigger if you like. try ziplock twist n seal tupperware, the large ones. the larger you go, the less you should compact it. :awesome:

Using pint jars instead of half pint ones isn't ideal, because PF jars take a longer time to colonize, because it's more dense than grains and can't be shaken to distribute colonized parts within the jar.
This increases the chance of contams, just as any further day of colonization time does.

This absolutely doesn't mean, that it doesn't work.
It works fine most of the time, but the chances for contams are a little higher, that's all...
