Chances of survival

In the past 2 months i have put about 20 quarts or more of contaminated spawn in selected areas in my backyard. Its cold here in NY and it has snowed a couple times. Basically my question is: is there any chance these things will fruit when the temps are right ?

Since the mycelium has already shown that it wasn't fast enough to colonize the substrate before the mold did, it's likely for you to just grow a big pile of crap out there.
However, I wouldn't want to say, that there can't be any fruits coming out of there, but it's rather likely that you have "wasted your time" (though this shouldn't have taken you too long )

no.. no chance.. the temps in NY have been too cold for the MYC to survive.. below freezing for many days and then back to 40 then bellow again.

Oh, I didn't even see, your NY. That's another thing then, since you probably wouldn't be able to grow any out door cubes, even if you'd thrown out the best mycelium you've ever grown.
The climatic circumstances just ain't the ones you'd need!

WTF? I have grown cubes outside i don’t get you people you keep saying it cants be done... BUT i have done it... Okay i get the freezing will kill my mycelium, that’s why i asked the question. But i have grown cubes outside in the summer with spent substrate before with no problem.
“Since the mycelium has already shown that it wasn't fast enough to colonize the substrate before the mold did, it's likely for you to just grow a big pile of crap out there.”
All of theses substrates contamed after the first flush and showed a very minimal amount of trich.

i have also left fully colonized quart jars out side in the freezing night by accident and have still fruited off them.

rofl why get so offended? you asked the question
i used to live in NY and i know that you won't be growing any cubes outdoors during winter
cubes are a tropical species mycelium nor mushrooms grow at 32 degrees
usually the refridgerator is enough to halt any growth in it's tracks.

so what’s the answer.. Just that Its possible, it may happen there is a chance it will work...? That’s not really an answer, I was asking other people and one said maybe, one said no, and i say yes, where is my answer?

im not asking if they will grown in the winter im asking if the mycelium will live long enough to fruit when the conditions are according.

It's impossible to answer your question;
really it depends on how much mycelium you threw out many of our indoor contams cannot survive outdoors
if the birds or squirrels haven't eaten all that rye.. i doubt mycelium will either and if it had, i think you would know, if you know what a fully colonized anything looks like

Dude chill. Yeah, that's the answer.
Is that so hard to believe? Throwing mycelium into a backyard is not an exact science. Therefor there are no exact answers.
It's not like you're paying us to answer your questions.

Well, good for you if you did grow them outside successfully.
Sure you can cultivate cubes in summer. You could do that even in Sweden. As long as you keep the mycelium moist that shouldn't be a problem. If you'd let them grow, you'd achieve probably nothing, since it might be hot, but dry as well.
The fact that your mycelium got contaminated after the first flush shows, that it hasn't the power anymore, to grow on and to search for nutrients in a speed that would not be fast enough to find them before molds do. So, it's likely that your mycelium does nothing or very little. This doesn't mean it wouldn't work at all!
You just gotta try it and I don't really see the problem, or better said the reason why you actually asked, since throwing myc on a pile is just as much "work" as throwing it in the trash, isn't it? Actually it's more senseful to at least try it than just throwing the stuff into a trash can, since there IS a possibility that it works.

See now that’s a good answer thanks fahkface ... i still get the answer maybe though, Im am not going to care for this myc, i was just curious what its chances of survival were...
