Wet spots, sign of bacterial contamation?
    #8121437 - 03/08/08 09:57 PM (16 years, 10 months ago)

A couple of my BRF jars have these slimey looking wet spots at the inoculation points.

Theres not really any noticeable smell, yet. No myc. growth either btw.

The four jars were first inoculated over two weeks ago now, showed no signs of myc. after ten days.
They looked okay so I thought what the hell Ill re-inoculate.

They were knocked up for the second time a few days later and its been about four days since then.

What tek did you follow? Were they incubated? How are you providing Gas Exchange for colonizing jars?

Most often there's a reason for jars not to colonize, such as bacteria or molds.
Maybe you just had some REALLY old spores but either way, re-inoculation isn't a good idea.
Bacteria and molds had a great chance to colonize the substrate, because there was no mycelium to conquer it first.

Since all the water in the jars has hardly a chance to become less, it isn't a good idea to pump even more water in there, so the moisture level gets too high!

You have to decide what's more precious for you: The substrate or the spores you probably waste on them.

I'd say, that re-inoculation is almost sure to fail, due to the above mentioned reasons!
