McCain voted against a ban on torture (or was it he voted for torture) recently. Either way, he is flipflopping his long-standing and experienced opposition to torture all to appease the conservatives. This pattern of saying-one-thing-and-doing another or bending of principles is quite common if you investigate the history of McCain as Senator. The meme is that he's some sort of maverick. I call bullshit on that - I just think he's a fraud.

I hate that term maverick, he is more like an 'old neoconservative' if that makes sense, this country is falling apart.

I think its lame how the government won't just come out and say YES we torture!
Its really not that big of a deal...waterboarding is fairly mild compared to what others do. For example...ripping teeth out, sleep deprivation, etc.

I am almost positive that sleep deprivation is or was one of the recent torture methods endorsed by the US. I know there was a problem where they kept one guy up for two weeks solid and he ended up having a heart attack... I would GUESS that sleep deprivation is practiced today in the US, or in guantanamo as a method of interrogation.

In Canada right now a terrorist on trial may go free because all of the evidence being used against him was ruled to be illegally obtained through torture by the U.S. So what if it works? Its worthless in court.

I like waterboarding when I'm at the beach. Its better than body surfing and doesn't need a full size surf board.

Really? Who? Court is not the most important function of government. Actually crime prevention trumps crime conviction every time.

I'm sure about it, I'm just not sure the CIA is willing to go the extra distance for real torture, waterboarding is still just questioning technique, interrogation comes when the blood flows

So yeah, essentially we may be causing a situation where we torture someone, then have to send them home to give them a second shot at blowing up a subway. Really intelligent stuff here.

Drug War.

you should read more on the secret CIA prisons that ship prisoners to, let's say, more "relaxed" countries where torture is a-ok.

Well, they are only throwing out evidence gained from waterboarding Zubaydah. If they don't have anything else, they don't have anything else and never would have even looked at him in the first place. He is not getting off because of waterboarding Zubaydah, they're just not using any info from Zubaydah.
Oh yeah, waterboarding isn't torture
