Question about fruiting jars
    #8113991 - 03/06/08 10:57 PM (16 years, 25 days ago)

My friend just told me he just checked on his last 5 jars of BRF and found that they are 100% colonized. In fact they have a few nohyphal knots some pins and 3 tiny fruits about 4 mm long. They have not been birthed. Here are the questions.

1. When he does the dunk and roll, should he pick off the fruits first so they don't rot in the process or would they be OK.

2. He is going out of town next week for about 7 days and wanted to postpone the birthing and dunking. Could he stick the jars in the fridge for about a week. Would this be OK with the knots and pins already growing since it would stop growth but will it rot the tiny fruit and pins?

OK if he is going to dunk them tomorrow, should he pull the small fruit off or just leave it on and wouldn't the fridge stop them from growing in vitro?

I would defiantly postpone. A week in the fridge VS home alone.

I'm not sure about the pins. I think if there were not damaged after birth, dunk and roll I would let them grow.

1. Doesn't matter. Just make sure he provides the adequate FAE it needs after the dunk for the moisture to evaporate off the pins or they'll abort. I've seen mushrooms double in size after being dunked with pins on them. Even if they do which is rare but usually happens. Spawn/Fruit them anyways. For future reference light has no benefit/negative on colonizing jars. Go to www.fungi.com and look at the pictures of thousands upon thousands of jars under 12/12 fluorescent lighting, Anyways. Doesn't matter, Dunk them anyways and provide the adequate FAE while maintaining 100% rH.

2. Wrap them in foil tightly and put them in the fridge. They'll be fine and stall growth, incubate prier to putting back into fruiting conditions 2 days before.
