Hello! I'm new here and wanted to share my love for this trashy music. Any one here on the shroomery love this sound as much as i do? I love the sound of the forward roll a banjo does that drives all those great breakdowns! I love the illusion of a drum set the mandolin and stand up bass makes. I can't get enough of those tenor vocals too! My favorite songs are gospel songs by Bill Monroe and his Bluegrass Boys. I am not a religious man either, but these songs are so good, i get so lost in the music that i forget he is singing about Jesus!!
I like talking about music alot and am curious as why people like or dislike the sounds they hear. I have asked many people do they like this music and they tell me "no". And when i ask why they can't tell me why and the most common response i get is either "because it sucks" or "it all sounds the same". Heh i do agree that bluegrass music sounds like bluegrass music, so i guess it does sound the same? It was after all a genre of music named after one band.
Well if anyone is curious about this music and does not know where to start, here are some of my favorites
Bill Monroe Flat and Scruggs Stanley Brothers Jim and Jesse Doc Watson Joe Val
Well thats all i got
cheers!

I love it! Bill Monroe is awesome. Del McCoury is also good, and so is newer stuff like Old and In the Way and Muleskinner. Speaking of muleskinner, the orignal writer of that classic song is Jimmie Rodgers, not bluegrass but good old country.

You will find lots of bluegrass fans on this site.

Hell yeah.
Check out Yonder Mountain String Band if you haven't heard em.
It's not like traditional bluegrass, more of a jammy style.
There is also Railroad Earth.

DieCommie- Del McCoury is great! awsome voice! he started out as Bill Monroe's geetar player. Old in the Way has an all star line up! Not too familiar with old country but there are alot of parallels with bluegrass. I'm downloading some Jimmy Rodgers torrent right now
MarshallDylan1- YMSB is fun. I am more of a fan of the traditional bluegrass, not the newgrass.
Apjunkie- Thats great you play the fiddle! Picking up the mando after 10 yrs of fiddling must have been great. Same tuning for both right?
I have been playing the banjo for a little over a year after playing guitar for 5. So it was cool being familiar with a string instrument. My favorite songs to pick are blackberry blossom, soldiers joy, and of coarse turkey in the straw What songs are your favorites to play?

Hey! I played BlackBerry Blossom at a local fiddle competition!
I got 4th out of 20. Other than the 420 reference I was kinda dissapointed
I've been kinda addicted to Chris thile recently, so I've been learning Ode to a Butterfly, Jessamyn's Reel, and various Nickle Creek songs.
If I was anywhere the Big Rock Candy Mountain I'd invite you over to jam!
