    #8109394 - 03/06/08 01:07 AM (16 years, 26 days ago)

Ok well i knocked up 5 jars of pink buffalo and this weird orange discoloration appeared. As soon as i noticed i posted a question about it with little annswers. Someone said if it spread thats bad news...my first crop btw...well it did spread but then shortly after the mycelium grow OVER this orange substance...in every jar the orange grew before any sign of myc. Now the mycelium seems to be taken over this orange stuff/ growing over it. All im curious about is if i should be worried about this. The myc seems to be healthy and growing at an extemely fast rate since the orange stuff grew...about a week from noticable myc to 90% colonization..Are my jars fine? please need quality advice

Lipstick Mold – Sporendonema purpurescens (Geotrichum candidium)

This fungus colonizes compost or casing. As spores mature, the color of the mold changes from white to pink, to cherry red, and finally to dull orange. It is slow growing. Spores spread in air, during watering, and on pickers. The lipstick mold utilizes certain fats in the compost. It is an uncommon problem. Control is centered around sanitation.

no its not that it started out as orange over the verm brown rice mixture then the myc came about a week after the orange started to grow now atleast in 3 out of 5 jars have very minimal orange discoloration to them once the myc took over and covered it
