XO-1?
Do you feel better that some child in the third world can now write about making your shoes?
On a serious note. Can you type at your regular speed on such a small keyboard? I keep wanting to get a sub-notebook, but i'm concerned about the keyboard size.
How many more mistakes do you make on the keyboard?
-------------------- "To do right is to know what you want. Now when you are dissatisfied with yourself it's because you are after something you don't really want. What objects are you proposing to yourself? Are they the objects you really value? If they are not, you are cheating yourself. I don't meant that if you chose to pursue the objects you most value, you will attain them; of course not. Your experience will tell you that. But success in getting after much labor what you really don't care for is the bitterest and most ridiculous failure." -George Santayana

I actually find it entertaining that I can use it to access things like porn and shroomery. Truly the american way.
To answer your question, using the onboard keyboard that the XO features is a ROYAL pain in the ass, if you are a typist. One is forced to resort to a "hunt and peck" style of typing. However, all of this can be circumvented using a USB keyboard. Also, the mousepad on the XO is equally difficult, so I recommend a USB mouse. There are three USB ports total, so that leaves you one for things like external harddrive, which will also be necessary. All in all though, it's a ton of fun, and handy as hell too. Downside is the wireless speed is restricted to like 1/3 of normal, but it's designed, like you said, for third world countries, not performance. It has been fun learning sugar, which is the OS they come preinstalled with, although the slim version of firefox that is on there does not support multiple tabs, so internet browsing is a one-page deal. Also, trying to find programs at this point that are compatible is a bit of a chore, although some good web based programs can be had too. meebo.com for instance offers all your IM needs, although this limits you to offline work, as the browser does not support multiple tabs. (as previously stated). HOWEVER, i bought it during the buy one get one deal they were running at the end of the year, and I will say that, for $100, it's worth it. It's extremely handy, easy to use in terms of figuring out the new OS, and very light. It's also a great conversation starter and, even though the screen is so small, you really don't even notice after a while. It is by no means a primary computer type deal though so, if I were looking to buy something for that type of use, I would do more research on some of the commercially available offerings, as they are bound to be a bit more powerful, at 3-4 times the price of the XO. Hope this helps, let me know what else I can help with.
