Subsrate incubation opinions
    #8105981 - 03/05/08 12:36 PM (16 years, 27 days ago)

Hey all, I want to get your opinions on how I should incubate my 12 qt containers of coir/wbs substrate.

I built a tub-in-tub to incubate my jars of WBS and had great results with a aquarium heater and inside ambient temperature of 78 degrees. Very fast colonization speeds.

I really wish I could use it to do my tubs of coir but it is not big enough, if I was to put them in there I would only have room for about 3 or 4, and would have to get rid of my other WBS jars that are colonizing, which I dont want to do.

It is winter here and my house is kept at 68 degrees constantly, 24/7. 10 degrees lower than my TiT.

What is the best thing to do with these containers, considering that after I case them I will be putting them into my martha which will be around 70 degrees.

Isnt one of the triggers for pinning reducing temperature? If I reduce it during my substrate colonization, I wont be able to reduce it again after I case and put it into the martha, if anything it will increase a few degrees from 68 up to 70 or 71.

Could really use some suggestions. Thanks guys.

block them from sun and keep them in your martha until colonized, there is no need to incubate your substrate.

Okay thanks bw

Just to clarify my martha isnt running yet, I dont have a humidifier in there.

Would it be okay to let the sub colonize in there even if the humidity was 90-95%? Is that a good thing or does it not matter?

your sub should not be expose to fresh air if it is colonizing, therefore, humidity is not an issue.
