Greetings pheerthevoid:)
I think the pine forests in your area are definately a good place for a hunt, I'm not sure how much luck you will have finding Psilocybe subaeruginosa but I suspect you may find Psilocybe aucklandii!
Good luck with the Weraroa novaezelandiae, check the landscaped gardens for Ps.subaeruginosa.
I'd love to see some images of some Psilocybe semilanceata, good luck.
Welcome to the shroomery:cool:

Thanks inski

I found a large wood chip pile and found some Parasols, I can't remember the scientific name but they are large, white with black spots on top. Edible too

It has been raining and it's quite warm so I might go for a hunt

Hey, found these near wanaka growing on cow dung. Looks like 2 types to me. Can anyone identify?
No blue staining yet on either and its been awhile.
They smell like the shrooms I used to get in the states.

Some sort of Agrocybe of Inocybe i would say. Non-edible, i litterally have MILLIONS of those in my back yard. I have over 10 square kilometers of laid wood chips here (no typo and no bullshit) so it looks like a potentially very promising season for me.

Haha i will get some pics up soon if y'all dont believe me

I cant wait for my first trip of the season!

Whens the earliest you guys have gotten P. subs?

have heard of them popping up as early as february before

a friend of mine works in a garden centre and she says subs are coming up now in some of the potted clematis (woodchips in the soil I guess...?)

so yeah, they obviously aren't as fussy about warmer temperatures as conventional wisdom would have us believe...hopefully this season will be better than last (I'm in the Manawatu and last year was arse compared to '06) but there's been piss-all rain lately

and best of luck with the weraroa, guys...I haven't had them in like five years or so now

Hi I'm a long time watcher but pretty new poster, really looking forward to the upcoming season and maybe finding some weraroa too (subs don't seem very common in wellington, correct me if I'm wrong). I haven't heard of subs coming up before April even with lots of rain.

Its literally a jump over my fence and there woodchips everywhere. Ive already seen mushrooms growing in it, which is a good sign considering how early in the year it is. Well for New Zealand, the opposite of where your shroom season starts.
A few mushrooms are popping up already, Amanita Muscaria, Ghostly Webcaps.. etc.

In a month or so we will be seeing our favourite Psilocybe and hopefully Weraroa.

How do you pick your shrooms? Lots of people reckon you should cut them and not damage the base is that actually true, does it make any difference? Or will they just grow back again, because it takes ages to pick them like that, but I dont want to damage them. I get paranoid though in some places haha

mandruku: From these forums I've heard that theres alot of P. subaeruginosa (gold/copper tops) in the pines and bark gardens, and P. semilanceata (liberty caps) growing in pastures down south, you might want to try looking up some of the archives on here. If the subs are common they'll be quite easy to find on woodchip gardens (not bark).

It won't matter if you damage the mushroom, just pick/snip/slice/cut it at the base to avoid pulling out a big chunk of mycelium attached to the stem base. You don't need scissors, just as long as you cut it out clean. I find a stanley knife useful for cutting through swathes of closely packed subs cleanly and quickly.

Cool thanks, I actually meant the mycelium when I said base not very clear though. Stanley knife sounds like a good idea.

This site: says Panaeolus subbalteatus has been recorded in New Zealand, Is it the kind of thing that "might" be here like Copelandia cyanescens. Does anyone think it's possible? I think it would be really good if we have a summer shroom as well even if they aren't very potent!

You will need to look around stables or land with horses grazing, and a lack of super phosphate.
Sandy areas seem the best with ample rainfall ,coastal dunes maybe and all of the above cheers.

I just wanna know so that when i go mushie hunting in the bush i have a fair idea of what to pick and what to not pick

Apparently Psilocybe Aucklandii is in the hills in west auckland, there are definitely Psilocybe subaeruginosa in the woodchip gardens out west and everywhere I've been in Auckland, they're probably less common in the bush though and apparently the weraroa are around too though perhaps not as common.

The subaeruginosa are the easiest I think, and if you find them, the things to watch out for are a white/offwhite stem and blue bruising. Also the peak of the season is probably May-June.

Hmm ok.. i was thinking of taking a stroll through the *bush in aucland* sometime this week, would any aucklandii or subaeruginosa be growing in there yet? I have found alot of different types of mushrooms growing out next to my house which is a little reserve covered in woodchip, but none are 'magic' so to speak. If there popping up around my house do you think they'd(MAGIC mushrooms, not plain old ordinary ones) be popping up in the bush yet?

That sort of brings me to my next point.. if mushrooms, ones that ARENT magic, are popping up around the place, does that mean magic ones will be too, and that i just havnt found them? or do certain species start popping up months before the magic ones do?

thanks

I went for a mushy hunt.... [Re: spasticated]
    #8182110 - 03/23/08 12:10 AM (16 years, 9 days ago)

Got nothing, but i say its looking pretty fucking promising around here (towlringer). My mushy spots are all fairly moist already, even in late avo. There is plenty of other wood-loving shrooms about.

I would say that in mid to late Autumn the first shrooms will start arriving. And holy crap, i cant believe its autumn already!

Only a matter of weeks now everyone. So, get out there and start looking as often as possible and make sure to let us know if you find anything! Nothing worse than missing out on good-shrooms

I know a spot reliable for finding weraroa, where i found many last season so i went to check today. Plenty of amanitas around but not much else. It hasnt rained for a fair while so the first big southerly of the autumn should turn up some nice ones i reckon!

I've been keeping an eye out around hamilton but nothing yet...although the last couple of weeks or so I have seen some non-actives so they can't be far off...we just need some rain!

Christchurch has only had just over half the average rain fall for this month(march). So lets all pray for a nice southerly front to come through a dump a load of water.

i went for a nosey down south there were thousands of mushrooms non active that i know of apart from amanitas, growing among some pines i never knew how many differnt kinds of fungi you could find, really freaky looking things. i cant wait to find some actives and get reaquainted with my old friends libs, but just finding all the crazy fungi about is a trip in itself

I cant wait till i go on google and find on the weather forecast 'heavy rain; heavy rain; heavy rain' lol! That'd be a real treat, it seriously is so dry in auckland atm, my lawn is starting to crack and the creek has dried up. Damn it, why is it never like this when you actually want it to be but when you want mushies to start popping up its strait sunshine with no clouds for weeks on end. :frown:

Anyone know any good hunting partners in the Auckland area to talk about the weather and ask for patch locations? By the way what mushrooms grow in my area?

I'd say it would be unlikely people will share their favorite spots for Subaeruginosa's, considering a bark garden full of them is like coming across a treasure chest. I've noticed they grow in council bark gardens and often there will be many patches in one area (1 square km, approx). Also they only grow in a certain type of bark in my experience, so take note of that too.

I'm definitely keen to go hunting with someone in Wellington, I've met some good folks from the shroomery in the past.

No finds yet anyone? It's still a bit early.

Cool. I've added you on MSN.. assuming you have MSN and I haven't just added your email address.

Anywho, I reckon it'd be fun to have a big Shroomery hunting entourage some time actually during the season. Anybody else who's game post here, then when we know what's happening, we can do the whole exchange of phone numbers, and finally a time and place for a meeting.

I'll bring some of my IRL friends as well (yes, I have friends off of the Internet. >.> <.<)

Got them id'd by a couple others with top notch myco knowledge, as was on a uni field trip haha they were alot smaller than i was led to belive tho, maybe cos they are early birds.

Good point, just it's a busy road and I've seen the cops go past a few times when I've been picking there. Probably unhealthy paranoia eh? Haha.

Went to a forest last night. Lots of fly a. but not much on anything else. Anyone ever have much luck finding sub's in forest? I've only found them in bark in the city *wahh*

Well, cops usually have a rough idea of the season and the heavily hunted sites. I know in chch they know of the Brighton hunting areas. On the net they say you can find subs in pine forests, but i have never found them in actual forests, only on old bark mulch, not the chunky stuff but the nicely ground up fine stuff. Usually has to be a few years old as well.

Damn how many days after its rained would you guys say its good to go have a looksy in the bush? The mulch/bark reserve near my property hasnt sprung any up and it had plenty of mushrooms when it rained like, 3 weeks ago, but unsure of how long after it had rained.

Its been 2 days, rekon it would be a good day tomorrow? Bark is still wet.

I was having a good search through cow pastures with not one sign of a mushroom in Christchurch.......Is this where you even expect to find them? Previous years I've looked through cow paddocks with no luck, so I've just stuck to Subs and seem to find enough of them.

I found lots of mushrooms(non active) popping up in my little reserve near my house which is covered in mulch/bark shit. Found some very interesting ones, so far over the last month ive found atleast 15 different species. One of the ones i found today were quite large, about 10cm diameter and brown on top, dark brown. were quite thick and solid, and had a rather thick stem which was about 7cm high. Brown gills. Found about 5 of these, almost looked identicle to edible mushrooms you see in the supermarket besides being brown on top.

Damn i wish i had a camera! Im going into the bush right now and will see what i can find, hopfully some actives but if not ohwell.

Im in waitakere/west auckland btw.

hmmm.... I see alot of good places that I think subs would like down here in hamilton.... However, can't stop thinking about how dodgey it is to go search these places.

Its not time to look yet as I haven't even seen any fly a. around, way to dry still.

Anyway if there is anyone keen in the hamilton area to meet up for a hunt when the time comes I'm interested

Incredible site you guys. I hope to be out hunting the good stuff soon as. Heaps of field mushrooms this week (N. of Wellington) but nothing else. A mate told me that the season doesn't really kick off till the first frost, is that true?

i think the idea of no seasonal/regional threads until the first find is a good one. oh well. good luck and fair weather my kiwi friends.

Hurray!!!!!

I found a mushroom that i thought remarkebly looked like a sub growing in the bark mulch stuff in the little reserve next to my house. So, i picked it, did a spore print, and the spore print was purple! Woot, im gonna go have another look around there soon, i found it growing next to a log, just sort of under it, sticking out. I dont know what it is exactly, its got brown gills and a light brown top, its relativly flat and quite soft, had a white stem and about 7cm tall, cap was about 4cm across. Ill try and get a picture of some if i can find more.

West auckland.

Just found some more shrooms growing about a meter away from where this one was. They arent the same type, they sort of had a cap that withered downward to make it rather pointy instead of flat. Im doing spore print on it soon.

Please dont shut this thread down, Its providing good information for new hunters and everyone is keeping good posts on the weather conditions and such. For the non-nz viewers nz is currnetly having a "indian" summer/autumn at the moment, and im sure the extended warmth will result in bigger flushes when the weather finally does roll in.
On a side note, i found 4 pretty little subs today on a walk with the dog, had to be sneaky as was with people who would freak if i was picking mushrooms ( slight of hand is handy ) will post pic of find tonight.
Good luck Kiwis!

Yeah grreeeat posts (read me n00b):

Quote:

5. Do not make threads or posts discussing or reporting the weather.
This includes complaining about the weather, asking if the current weather is "good for shrooms", or how long to wait after rain fall to go hunting.
As a general rule of thumb, if it has rained within the last 2-3 days, and the temperatures are correct for the type of mushroom you're looking for, then *yes* it is possible that the mushroom you are looking for is growing.
Threads or posts that are made for the discussion of weather will be locked, edited, or deleted.

a few pages? 6 pages, 112 replies and what ONE find? There are rules designed to stop useless clutter, you should  read them:

Quote:

3. Do not ask what mushrooms can be found growing in your state or immediate area.
This information is easily found in the Mushroom Hunting FAQ and/or has been posted at least once elsewhere on the net. Also see this document: http://www.shroomery.org/8461/Which-mushrooms-grow-wild-in-my-area

4. Do not ask about current finds in your area.
These posts have been flooding the forum at the start of seasons. If you're curious about if mushrooms are growing in your area, get out there and look! Mushrooms don't read the books. Sometimes they fruit outside of season. There is no set date for any season, only vast generalizations. Your best bet is that if it's close to the season for the mushroom you are looking for, you just might find some.

6. No asking when or where mushrooms, or a specific mushroom species will grow.
This includes, asking what habitat a mushroom[s] can be found- or their preferred fruiting conditions. This can be very simply answered by using the "search posts" feature: http://www.shroomery.org/forums/search.php

7. No requesting or revealing specific locations.
Locations NOT allowed: Business names, government buildings, shopping centers, pasturelands, when specific directions are given to a location, or any place with an address. Use common sense about what might be considered a specific location. When in doubt, do the moderators a favor and just don't say it. If your post gets edited then it was deemed unacceptable. If you have problems with this please send a private message to the moderator in question.

8. No asking for hunting partners.
The Hunting Forum is for learning, sharing, teaching and identification purposes, we are not a hook up of any kind. If you would like to request a hunting buddy, make a topic about it in the Gathering Forum. You will gain access to the Gathering Forum after being a member for more than 60 days and when you have reached more than 100 posts.

Sounds like a good way to give away your locale. That is even if you have the local paper. Otherwise you'd have to go to the effort of buying one or an out of town one. After a hunt I'm sure that's the last thing you feel like doing

in the first 4 pages of this thread mushyhunter said:
  • haha oh i cant wait for this years mushroom season! I live near a creek/stream and the local council has covered the whole place(its kind of like, a little reserve) with wood chips! Its literally a jump over my fence and there woodchips everywhere. Ive already seen mushrooms growing in it, which is a good sign considering how early in the year it is. I say a month or 2 and imma be seeing some nice shroomz worthy of eating

  • Hey, what are the most common species in the Psilocybe/any 'magic' genus that grow in NZ, specifically west Auckland/Auckland?

  • If there popping up around my house do you think they'd(MAGIC mushrooms, not plain old ordinary ones) be popping up in the bush yet?

  • The rain just cant come soon enough. Damn.. im sure its been weeks since we've seen any... maybe just my imagination? im not sure.

  • damn it, it basically hasnt rained in auckland in weeks!!

  • I cant wait till i go on google and find on the weather forecast 'heavy rain; heavy rain; heavy rain' lol! That'd be a real treat, it seriously is so dry in auckland atm, my lawn is starting to crack and the creek has dried up. Damn it, why is it never like this when you actually want it to be but when you want mushies to start popping up its strait sunshine with no clouds for weeks on end.

  • [Picture of weather forecase: warm days, sun and showers]
    epic win!

  • WEll dude, any rain is good, it seriously hsnt rained in so fucking long its not even funny. It's changed now and it should be harder rain on monday but less/no rain on sunday. Im fine by that

  • why the fuck do aussies hang around in the NZ mushrooms thread? lol...

  • na cause your jealous of our awesome shroomz.

  • mate no body cares if your taking pic's of mushrooms or anything else, they'll prolly just think your doing some study or some shit.

And wtf are they gonna do about it, 'OMG HES LIEK TAKING PICS OF MUSHROOMS CALL DA COPS!'?

    lol!

  • Damn how many days after its rained would you guys say its good to go have a looksy in the bush? The mulch/bark reserve near my property hasnt sprung any up and it had plenty of mushrooms when it rained like, 3 weeks ago, but unsure of how long after it had rained.

Its been 2 days, rekon it would be a good day tomorrow? Bark is still wet.

Yeah you see i wouldn't have to make such big quotes a) if people read the rules before they posted and b) if there wasn't so much crap to quote. But you can do whatever you want with this thread, i just feel for all the poor fools who will look up this thread in the archives hoping to learn something useful, only to find a 6 page weather discussion.

hey dudes, another successful hunt yesterday. Heres my finds, I also noted that alot of them were half eaten by little mites. I'm not to fussed so I just cleaned and dried the half eaten once anyway lol I figure they still have psychoactive stuff in em and could trip the scales when it comes to trip time( nothing worse than not having enough :mushroom2: )
Found about 10 subs in total, heres a couple pics of the nicer ones, a sexy little pin ( i saw quite a few pins:crazy2: ) and a pic of the 'crapper' finds.
Peace all

Please keep this thread friendly people, no cat fights. If you want to show everyone how cool you are, go do it in the OTD or Pub. This is not the place.

I cant believe it, the weather looked 'great' for the season a few weeks ago here, now its dirt dry. I still have hope for my hunt tomorrow though :awesome:

Hey hey, East Aucklander here. Went on a hunt today and found a fair few potential patches to look out for in the coming weeks. Found one massive cluster of big mushrooms, looked a little unhealthy but the top of the caps looked a little like P.Subs, I left them be as I wasnt sure and was only out scouting anyway.

Am planning a mission out to the west auckland forrests and such in two weeks or so. Should be grand to see what I may come across

Rained *heaps* late sunday, monday, and tuesday. Went for a look in the bush today(tuesday) and only found a few amanita's in a patch, just young ones, still in a bulb, was a patch of them with a couple of old rotten full grown ones in it too. Found some pouch fungus, about 10 or so spread out about 20 square m, sort of yellow/white, cracked at the top with rain drops hittin them and spores coming out(i even saw it as it was raining when i was hunting). Found some REAL funky looking tree fungus, you know that hard shit that grows in plate type form, heaps of it and some of it quite big too.

Didnt find anything worth eating though! Quite disappointing really.

Something i have noticed - NZ bush is a BITCH to move through. Seriously, its like, so fucking dense, theres fucking spider webs EVERYWHERE that always get on your face, lots of low hanging branches to hit your head on and get shit all over your face for us tall people, and generally annoying to get through and you know, some of it is so dence you cant even get through ffs.. maybe i should invest in a machete!

Ohwell, ill try again tomorrow!

Hi folks,

I don't usually visit these forums but I usually pop in when the season is starting to get a gauge on what's going on.

Without further ado, here's a little something from central Auckland:

For a bit more info, it was found today in a heavily shaded bush. Looks like things are starting to swing!

Good luck everyone and make sure to check out a thread I will post soon enough on the various mushrooms I found in todays hunt.

Hello!

OK so its rained heaps(HEAPS) for the last 4 days, and i went out to check the little mulch/bark reserve next to my house just earlier, and found some large mushrooms. Dont know what they are, waiting for bruising and spore print right now.

Anyway, i found heaps of mycellum.. like, HEAPS of patches. About 20 or so, some of them about 3 square feet. They are growing just under the bark/on the bark. Anyway, what should i do? I dont think its going to rain much in the next week. Would it be wise to water these patches? Or should i just leave them be?

Hey Mushyhunter, I'd ignore the bark places, unless there is woodchips mixed in, they don't really seem to grow on bark. You shouldn't need to water them, especially if you don't know where/if the actives are yet, don't think it would do any harm thoguh.

Can't wait till some more subs come out. Those liberty caps look awesome haunted, are they from Wellington?

Hey,

I finally found a pair of innocent little Subaeruginosa's in a patch of bark garden that I inoculated with spores two years ago. These only weighed in at 3.3grams(400mg dry), so heres me naively thinking I would be lucky to get much of them, but I tried anyway while they were still only one day old.

HOLLY! About 45mins after ingestion I just couldn't believe that I was almost being propelled into a full trip, WOW these tinny shrooms mean business. I am quite experienced with Subs and often take at least 3 times this in dry equivalent, so in theory these should only be above threshold dose in my experience. But not these ones, it was like having a casual glass of wine, only for it to knock me in the ass like a whole bottle would in one go. My only conclusion to their strength was that it is first flush of the season(so plenty of nutrients) and their small mature size.

In my experience comparing these Subs to home grown Cubensis, the strength was equivalent in fresh weight to at least 15-20grams of Cubs. That would make them over 5 times stronger than Cubensis!

Oh nice...Hey I was just wondering if anyone had had any luck in the Waikato region yet?

I've been looking all over the place and so far nothing active. Plenty of others though so I'm not losing hope yet

http://www.erowid.org/library/books_online/magic_mushrooms_aunz/magic_mushrooms_aunz.shtml

The above info is generally considered out of date, it was before Ps. subaeruginsoa was made out of various species etc, but its a good read any way. If you really want excellent information just look through the previous New Zealand threads, plenty of finds and hints, there's loads of pages to get through.

Any help with identifying these dried up mushrooms? I'm quite new to hunting and identifying.. found these today in wellington and am not sure if I'm anywhere near in my uneducated guess that some might be liberty caps? It's a huge pic so you may want to dl and use a utility to unzoom to the right size. Thanks!

West central Auckland is all good. Got some more subs here in Welly, and found a tiny little weraroa which is a first for me, pretty stoked.
So far in Wellington I haven't found any decent patches though, but I'm leaving small bits of stalk around so hopefully there'll be some more patches next year.

Gday hunters.
Nearly positive I found a patch of Gymnopilus yesterday. I'll post pics this week but I warn you, I'm new so there wont be any props comin my way. Just reading and learning at this stage. Despite the horrible taste I keep reading about I can't find much about gyms. It looks like a large species with not much sub-classification and nothing NZ specific.

-haunted, i see you've some experience with these. Are they worth my time to go back for or should I just keep looking for subs?

Anyone with gym facts or opinions chime in. Cheers all!

I have never been fortunate enough to find any Subs but a mate handed me a Mycelium clump from one of his sites last year, to which I then made up a small grow box, filled with mulch and left in my garden in a shelterd spot away from the sun.

Yesterday I decided to check up on it and I found vast amounts of mycelium colonized throughout the mulch, so here's hoping come the cold weeks ahead

PS guys here's a REALLY good Spawn to card-board TEK that anyone can do. Here you can colonize many places and spread the goodness around

These are the gym's I was asking about:

These ones (probably nothing) were in the same area, not sure if you can see it in the pics as well as on the day but where the caps broke they were really bright blue... looks a bit green in the pic.

Weird, the gill color says no, but that bluing says yes.. They look similar to P. panaeolus - which i doubt is in NZ, but you never know what people have seeded areas with.

I have found definate subs that had a very greenish 'bluing' - i suggest making a post for you find.

Nice gyms by the way :awesome:

I hope someone knows what that is Hence, I agree you should do an ID request, I wonder what it is it would be awesome if it were active.. but that is a strange colour and doesn't really look like any bruising I have seen, it seems too natural less like bruising and those stems are pretty strange, looks like a plant it's weird.

Yeah, it's a trippy colour aye. Definitely not bruising though 3rd, you're right. Almost like a layer beneath the skin was that colour and you could see it when broken.

I'm going to do some diggin, but anyone have experience with gyms? Do they have any poisonous look-a-likes?

Yes gyms can easily be confused with deadly Galerina because they share the same habitat and spore color. Gymnopilus can be distinguished from Galerina by its larger size and bitter taste.

hehe I was having my lunch walking out of uni today almost spat it out when I saw some shrooms at my feet, bit small though I left them more than likely being picked like all the blatant patches I'm finding lately.
It's the first pic the others' are just some older ones thought I'd add

That's a cool home patch, I did that too lol but theres nothing on it. Its amazing and weird how easily the mycelium grows from anywhere on the mushroom, lets make this a shroomy(er) country:P Next time I have brown rice for tea I'm going to make some spawn.

Hey everyone,

Pretty new to mushrooms and the forum. After researching this board and hunting tirelessly for a week i came across some subs last monday and have enjoyed two great trips so far (the one yesterday was DEFINATELY more intense, melting walls, breathing etc). I was afraid i wouldnt be finding any shrooms for a while to come but now i think i have a reliable patch to keep picking from..
So heres what i found:

Great pics man, have you got photoshop? it would help keep the images alot smaller.

They are some huge subs tho! I have found similar sized ones but not so many. What part of nz you in? (dont need to be too specific).

Just some hints (this goes out to all new shroomers) if you find healthy young mushies that arent properly developed i suggest you leave them for a few days to let them grow and drop some spores. This will help keep the patch healthy. Also make sure to tap the caps a few times to release loose spores. And cut or break shrooms at their base, pulling them out can severely damage their mycelial systems.

I went out for a real quick hunt in my backyard just before. I found these, very very happy.

Great finds!
I went for a huge tramp this weekend. Snow on the local peaks (N. of Welly) It was AMAZING! But I haven't found anything outside of your 'pink gilled, good on toast', variety. I've done a crap load of research and am still feeling real confident about what I'm looking for. Made a log book <- really getting into it. But I've shrugged off some comments that my local area is "too cold" for magic mushies. Anyone have actual knowledge on growing conditions that would make say: a river valley and surround out of play for the hunt?

Sneaky find of subs, found them after all the rain we had in weekend at my usual spot. wondering how many flushes it'll do this season, as this is the 2nd or third flush.

Here are a couple of finds from last weekend and tonight. Plenty of subs around and the biggest I've ever seen. (Sorry about the lighting.)

We also successfully transported some into our backyard garden and here's a pic of the patch after a week.

We also managed to try out some Amanitas. We sliced them up, dried them and then made the powder into a tea and all I can say is that the tea was DISGUSTING! I drank about 90% of the glass before I just couldn't do anymore.

Please, please, please post more details with your finds. City you're in, habitat... the usual. It really helps out us greener folk.

Anyone had experience with laughing gyms? Given their lookalikes, I reckon their not worth my time. Also looking forward to the fly A report... good luck keeping them down.

Thanks for stating the obvious Dizz but you missed my point.

It's of general interest to me, as I'm sure many. Where the season is booming and where it isn't. So when one guy posts a pic of a sub, ofcourse I know what is was growing from. But when the post nor profile tells me if it's from Auckland or Dunedin, cow paddock or sheep paddock, pine forrest or sand dune. This site then only becomes a photo gallery of "high-five, good on ya!" comments.

But hey excuse me for asking for a bit of info in a FORUM. Didn't mean to wear jandels in you country club.

Hence , as you can see my subs were found in dunedin, in a area with old pine trees, very old pine trees, they tend to grow in the shadier areas that stay moist over the summer period, i assume the mycelium likes it that way. I havent found subs growing in pure pine needles before, but in between grassy hummocks where the pine needles have broken down nicely into the soil.
Another good place to look is where pine bark chips are used for landscaping, not the big chunky chips, but the finely shredded stuff that is kinda grey from the resins having been washed out. look around base of little shurbs and stuff where its shady and moist. GOod luck, good hunting up around wellington, and im pretty sure the season should be booming in wellington.

Fair enough dude, though it is their choice if they want high fives or not. Im sure if these people wanted others to know, they WOULD simply put all the info you want stated above.

Anyhow theres no point in this but to let everyone do as they please sharing their info. We all know the rules.

Na yea, only word doc. would work for me, sorry bout that.

I was pretty stoked with them aye, thought id never find any. Im in Wellingotn. Think it would be going alot better down here if it would rain some more..My mates just found some south of auckland so im guessing not every where is like here..

Anyone know the life span of subs? I left the pins in my home patch been a week now and theyve grown a bit plus more pins have popped up around them.
Should i leave the bigger ones till the new pins catch up or will they go mouldy?

Found four large subs at work yesterday too, they had dried out a bit so i dried em right out and put in honey.

silverhaze: I'd say give them a bit of water and they should definitely get quite a bit larger than they look there, they get really massive sometimes but I'm not sure how much of thats variety or getting enough water/humidity and time.

Hi, Can I please get some dose advise from locals that have used Auckland or NZ Psilocybe subaeruginosa...

I have tried dried weights below, on 4 seperte occasions, over a month:

0.7g  = no effect
1.0g  = no effect
2.0g  = no effect  (friend tried same batch 2.0g and went to SATURN, almost level 3.75 effects(one scale 1-4), SAME BATCH, this is all DRIED blended and homogenious)

I then tried;
3g + 1.5g (1 hour later) + .3g ½hr later (total 4.8g over 2 hrs), minor level 1 effect... maybe

at the same time, and SAME BATCH, friend took 1.7g and had about lvl 3.0 effects... SO the mushies are good and do work.

SO... does anyone have any experience or advice on what level I should try.
Has anyone had similar no effects while others have had a trip on the same does?

Please message me privately, I want to figure out what weight to try or any advice? Does fresh work better then dried, and if 2g dried is used, what is that as WET FRESH weight?
Thanks

1g dry is 10g wet, just times it by ten. Some people have a pretty bad natural tolerance. In another thread i think some guys were saying they need like 3-5g dry + to feel something, but me i would be pretty well toasted on a dry gram and happy not to take any more.

Are you on any SSRIs? anti-depressives? they can blunt the effects.

Found a few P. Subs in the very near central Auckland area at roughly 2am this very misty morning. Not giving away exactly where but, they're about.
I suggest good hunts through Albert Park, Victoria Park, Myers Park perhaps.
Generally you'll find carpets of non-psilocybin containing fungii too.

Reasonably good action out in the forests today (but getting into the forest has proven more tricky as the gorse thickens). Mostly small ones which I left, but a few medium sized and a couple of bigger ones.

Most of the Aucklandii in the pictures weren't picked as they were too small.

Re: my amanita experience

To be honest, I was still on a regular psilocybin trip so it's a bit hard to tell what the effects were exactly.

I'd say there's definately a calmness, everything feels silent. I can see how they would be great for meditation as I felt that I could easily clear my mind (if the other magics weren't effecting me :S). I didn't drink as much tea as I should have (I couldn't stomach it).

But yeah, overall I'd say it's a very quiet and still trip. Not particularly interesting but then that would have been just because I was coming down from the regular shrooms.

My finds were in Hamilton, on wood chip gardens. They usually grow in areas that are mostly shaded during the day so look around and under small bushes.

These, plus more but they needed more time, were throughout a mature ponga grove in a pretty deep river valley: Kapiti coast.

Anyone tried the honey keeping method? Does the honey absorb any of the active chems? Interested to know if I have to make a huge honey tea or can I just pick out the mushies?

Haunted, you said you found subs in the bush? No paddocks?

They're about as potent as subaeruginosa, which is fairly strong. A standard strong dose is about 2 grams.

As for growing Aucklandii outdoors in your garden; I wouldn't know. Try it and see if it works. You may want to get a bunch of soil from the forest and spread that around.
Let us know if it works, because it can be tiring hacking through thick NZ forest :P

dude CK.. you should know by now that libs dont grow in akl... none of those are active. bottom one possibly p. aucklandii - but i highly, highly doubt it because of the gills.

look for p. aucklandii, w. novaezelandiae and the obvious and plague like p. subaeruginosa.

Do Weraroa-nz or others of the same species have deadly look-alikes?

Cheers!

nice haul RavisT!

hence, those look like weraroa nz. I have found look-a-likes, but I wouldn't know if they're poisonous. probably they'd be poisonous though by the look/smell of them

A couple of Psilocybe aucklandii from the small area I discovered 20 meters from my house last may, these were found on the same date as the first specimen from last year!

The strains seem to be not as robust as the P. aucklandii found in the local pine forests here in Auckland, the entire patch is only about four meters square, hopefully it gets bigger:cool:
inski..

Haunted what do you mean by, "they'd probably be poisonous." Did you mean the look of the once I'd posted? And what sort of smells should I be avoiding / searching for?

Cheers.
