patched colonization

I was wondering if there were anything I can do to prevent patched colonization.
The jar would be fine, but the mycellium would grow on half the jar. I give them more time, and eventually the mycellium will take over the whole jar. But there's got to be a way around waiting.
Anyone got any ideas?

Just let it do what it does. This could be cured by added more inccoultion(spelling) points. But adding extra holes is just asking for contam to come and eat up all your goodies. So if your only doing 2 holes now, try 4. Or go for 6. If your teks are clean, and good. Then you should have no problem...

I innoculated my 1/2 pint jars at four points each and they all fully colonized in 3 weeks. Make sure the substrate is not too wet or dry. Don't pack them down at all either. Incubate at around 85 F.

This was the whole reason my cat decided to get away from PF-style cakes... they never seemed to colonize evenly and always took a really long time waiting for that last dime-sized bit to turn white.

He did some reading and found out that if he instead uses organic rye berries he can shake the damn things early in the colonization, distributing the living mycelium to all parts of the substrate.

Shaking is the key, my friend. If you want your substrate to colonize faster, you need to use a shakable medium.

Hell Yeah it is.... 10 days ago I did my first birdseed jar (only 1/2 pint), But it is cased today! First casing too by the way, I hope it turns out good !

An additional boon to using shakable grain substrates is that it is particularly well suited for bulk spawning on things like straw and manure.
