The new plan!

So first step in my new plan is switching vendor to Ralphster
next
Buying the 6 pak Special for $50 Buying a syringe of Ban Phang Ka for $15 and getting the S.O.T.M wich is currently A strain. with shipping and handling it will be 70$ even.
Basicly giving me a grand total of 8 syringes.
Now i will buy 2 new flats of pint canning jars, approx 25$ for 2 flats of 12 jars.
I will make my Tyvek lids by modifying the metal center lid with a 1/4 inch hole located in the center of the lid, the tyvek will then go ontop of that and be held by the metal ring, once its tight like a drum a dab of silicone will be use to make the self healing injection port.
I plan to Soak WBS for 24 hours to hatch endospores Rinse Skim Light simmer for 10 mins rinse dry for 30 mins to an hour with paper towels to assist. load the jars 3/4 full and PC for 60mins
Now, we go inoculation crazy, we will see what developes .

I dont think there is a need to do both simmer and soak. I usually just soak for 24 hours, skim, rinse, and drain. But then again, ive never been a fan of the simmering technique.
ive also never used self-healing injection ports. I usually just use pre-drilled holes and cover them with micropore tape.
keep me updated on your experience with the silicon, this is something id like to work with in the future.

did he even mention what size jars he was using?
I have found that pint jars work best.

yes, im using pint jars, i would use bigger jars but they dont fit in my PC. a lil presto 6 quart. When i say simmer i may be using the wrong term, the term im looking for might be "stipe" where i just bring it up to really hot water but not moving the surface of the water alot or at all. Im really thinking getting more moisture in my WBS will help because i've done everything so far on the dry side with mixed results. Providing i dry the grains properly after bring them up to temp, moisture content should be perfect.

~I want to start using a small silicon injection port as well on jar lids....as well as when making my first LC sometime here in the near future. Anyone encounter any problems with these silicon ports? Anything ever go wrong with them? ~Pixie~

Sounds like a pretty good plan, exactly what I did and my luck has been outstanding. Only difference is I used my tyvek under the medal lid
tyvek > metal lid w/ polyfill > 2 coffee filters
basically exactly as docs wbs tek tells to do it, and I have had zero, zero, zero problems. Have 5 jars basically 100 percent colonized in 13 days just trying to decide what I want to do next.

Make sure you make two holes, one for gas, one for injector. I make my injector ports right on the metal, not on the tyvek. People say to use only rtv (high temp automotive silicone) but I have always used regular silicone and it works out fine. Make sure to let the silicone cure for 24 hours. Like sm0ke said, I also put my tyvek under the lid, that way any loose grain cannot get between the tyvek and the lid where it could possibly wick in contamination. I like the 24 hour soak and simmer, you get the perfect moisture content every time. I would also watch for overfilling your jars, I did an experiment a while back where 2/3 full jars took a week and a half longer to colonize then 1/2 full jars.
Your plan sounds very solid, good luck!

The silicon injection ports are simple i use standard permatex clear rtv, Here is it in action on a 80 or so% colonized jar of WBS

I like to draw on things, might have been high at the moment.
But whats going on with the duct-tape in this picture is, i made lids of ONLY tyvek and the metal ring, and they made my WBS substrate too dry after 3-5 days, so instead of risking contam and switching lids, i just covered large portions with tape. Great sucsess. The injection port made it possible for me to inject sterile water in this jar when it was stalled damn near a month ago at 15%.
I ordered the Mexi 6 Pak from ralphsters and the strain of the month over the weekend and picked up 2 flats of pint canning jars. Lets see what happends.
im bumbed i didnt order the bang pha ka, i just had to put money elsewhere, perhaps when i get things going again i'll trade someone for some prints.
