Replaced the motherboard, now windows won't let me activate the computer.
    #8100242 - 03/04/08 12:39 AM (16 years, 2 months ago)

I thought i would make my life easier by making my computer smaller and lighter.

Instead, windows has informed me that since my hardware has changed, i need to activate windows again.

As a bonus, apparently i'm not allowed to activate my legal copy of windows. I am allowed to pay 100 more dollars to make my windows legit. Even though i paid full retail price for it.

So i guess i'll call them tomorrow. If they don't respond with the right answer, i guess i'll go finally get myself an illegal copy, like i should've in the first place.

You try to help out a giant evil company by buying their product and this is how they repay you. Maybe its time to learn linux?

yeah, this shit is stupid

There's an email or webform you can submit.

I did this once and I got a very quick answer

But they pretty much told me to go screw myself

But my situation was different.

I just use a cracked XP, though I purchased a license when I bought the computer (preloaded)... haven't had any problems, its just a pain to find the WGA cracks if you want to update it

and to the guy who said its no problem cuz you've got a legit license... don't be so sure. It shouldn't be a problem, but it can be. I'd still call them first though

Not that y'all care, but i thought i would update.

My initial anger subsided after the nice indian(dot, not feather) lady activated my windows in like 2 minutes.

Finally, a point for microsoft.
