First Timer
    #8098248 - 03/03/08 04:04 PM (16 years, 10 months ago)

I am very interested in trying to grow my own mushrooms, but first I have a few questions.  Circumstances kind of suck, otherwise I think I could probably figure it out on my own.  Right now..I am living with my grandparents so I cant grow them here.  My girlfriend recently moved into town but I cant move in with her until next year because of other circumstances (long story) She works a schedule of 4 days on and 4 days off (meaning shes only home 4 days out of the week) on the four days she is off, I stay there with her.  This is where I want to grow my shrooms.  My question is..is it even possible with me not being there every day? Or if I could come once a day to "water" the plants would that work? Also I REALLY wanted to start out with a local (Texas Gulf Coast)strain of cube that I would collect myself.  I have been unable to find any thus far this season.(I have not shroomed in almost 9 years and even then only made about half a dozen trips)  I realize Im most likely just being impatient (I really want to trip damn it!!! lol its been 7 years!). I also thought I could buy a syringe to start off with and then get some local ones later if I wanted..I dunno though. Which method would work best, if any, for my situation? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. THANX!!.:D

Your best bet is to use the search function at the top of your screen. You can find answers to all your questions. Second, check out the TEKS and the FAQS that are availiable with just a click- they walk you through the steps. Remember to follow the forum rules and you'll be good.

When you have questions that havn't been answered, even after a search of the decade of posts, then you come to the forum. Its the best way for you to get your grow on.

Checking your mycelium progress every four days would be fine. When you transfer to your fruiting chamber, you'll need to be able to fan out the carbon dioxide a couple of times a day. I'm sure there are ways to automate that process, but I don't know any advanced techniques related to that. Others will.

I decided to order grow bags (5 of them) and syringes(2) for my first time (It seemed the best choice for my current situation)I inoculated the bags 2 days ago.  The thing that really sucks though is, right now they are in my closet locked in a duffel bag.  The temperature in my room fluctuates from 65-70 everyday (they like to keep it cool in this house) I bought a small reptile heat pad but I guess it does not work inside of a bag (probably pretty stupid to try although I did with poor results) anyway..I have decided to just let it sit in my closet for now. Will this be OK? Also is it OK to keep the bag zipped up? I really wish I could use a T.I.T but I have to keep my stuff concealed the 4 days of the week that I stay here. I hope that I don't have to wait until June to see mushrooms :frown: Does anybody have any suggestions for me? Oh and the strains I used (they had some kind of deal where they pick the strain) where Penis Envy Uncut and Huautla. I have found a lot of useful info so far and received a lot of advice. Thanks everyone

EASY FAE:

Drill 200 holes on all 6 sides of the FC. No fanning is required. I am assuming you are using a rubbermaid container(s) and perlite.
