Computer hardware questions

Alright, got some more questions for you guys...
I am in the process of building a new computer, I'm ordering everything I need slowly as I am waiting for the new intel quad cores to be released...hopefully in a couple weeks.
Does anyone have a blu-ray rom in their computer? NOt a burner, just a rom...If so, which one? I am looking at getting one so I can rip Hi-def movies to play back on my ps3...Even if you don't have one, an recommendations of what are supposed to be good ones would be great.
Also...I would like to get a large network storage solution, something like 2TB, and expandable from there if possible. Is NAS the best option for this? Also, which would be a good one, I value my data and dont want a crappy, unreliable one.
Thanks guys

Network attached storage. Like a proprietary file server. Exactly like a proprietary filer server! Save yourself the hassle and get more/bigger SATA hard drives, the throughput will be greater, and you can share directories on them, giving you that NAS functionality.

Yeah, but I like to tuck a drive away in another room so that if somebody breaks into my house and takes my computer, I still have a good backup of my data hidden away.

get a cheap (or not so cheap)computer and a hard drive controller card pack it with hard drives put linux on it and use it as a file sever you could even set up encrypted file systems this way even if it dose get stolen your data will be unreadable another thing is a lot of smaller hard drives are a lot less likly to all tack a dirt nap at once than one huge hard drive
a not so cheap file server http://www.linuxdevices.com/news/NS3943657768.html

OR if your doing serous work on your good computer ( Not Gaming ) use a cheap computer as an X terminal and hide the good computer away some place
this way the cheap computer gets stolen and not the good computer
another thing about such a setup is the good computer spends all it's time crunching numbers and the X terminal dose the display

anyone got a good link for turning a computer into a file server, with this build I will have one computer extra, hardware and software advice. I know I can find it on google, but sometimes people have exceptional links hidden away
with specs like
p4 2.0ghz or amd duron 1.6ghz 1gb ram a graphics card (which im sure will be useless for file server) some extra hdd, all will be IDE if that is okay, guess i could get some pci sata cards though, even though i could easily get what I want with the 4 ide on mobo.
thanks guys

bump...
someone here has to have set up a file server before. I've done some searching, and there are TONS of different options to accomplish this, but if anyone has a recommendation for what is best, that would be wonderful.

IDE is fine for single user environments, but has dismal performance in the multiuser world.

seems like you could set up a basic no gui gentoo server with nfs, ssh, and ftp and have what you need. nfs so you can mount it as a local drive on your computer. ssh to remote in to admin (and scp). ftp for anyone that comes to your house or you give ftp rights to over the net. personally, i would also set up mysql on it to run amarok on all local computers with the same music database.

Setting up a file server is really, really easy under windows or linux.
Just get a computer, put hard drive(s) in it, and set folders to be shared.
