my sis? i think your mistaken? FBI? what? RR has his face all over the place on here and he's always talking about how he's been doing this since before most of us have been born... i was looking for 'hydrated lime' on the package, but couldn't find it. one of the few that didn't say anything about dolomite though...

guaranteed analysis: total Calcium (Ca)...38% 73% calcium Oxide, or 97% Calcium Hydroxide Calcim Carbonate equivalent...95%
derived from: limestone, lignosulfate binder
i don't see anything about magnesium content on there galadar... there's a website on the back that it refers you to for info on contents and levels of metals... i'll get back to you on this one

Alright, i went to like 3 hardware stores and 2 nurseries in search of the right kind of lime... i used dolomite lime for pasteurizing straw for oysters, and they grew great....but most people on here say dolomite lime will burn your sub. right now i am trying to make a casing for a coir/coffee bulk sub that was spawned to from rye grain. I plan on using a 50/50 layer for my casing, and i know the addition of lime is good to help balance pH. I'm wondering if anyone knows about this particular type of lime, if it's good for mush cult.
NO Dolomite lime has a high pH and is not water soluble which will take months to even years to start to break down and work. Even longer when palletized... You want Hydrated Lime because it's water soluble and works extremely fast. Keep in an airtight container or it will result/return back into Calcium Hydroxide or Carbonate. Something like that. Anyways, Use Gypsum at 10% rate with a teaspoon per cup of peat/coco coir/ANYTHING really.
So. 10% Gypsum, Teaspoon per cup of substrate/casing.

okay, where did gypsum come from? i don't want to fuck with coir anymore, i'm trying to figure out my casing layer which will be 50/50 peat/verm, hence why i need the lime. and i know i'm going to want to mix some gypsum into the casing as well as the lime.... i'll get to that though. and i don't know if you noticed, it says "Peletized lawn and garden lime" on it...... so it is pelletized, is this what i want? sounds good to a couple folk...

You need the lime to boost up the pH so contaminants can't contaminant...LIME IS NOT CONTAMINANT FRIENDLY and greatly lowers your chances of contamination when using it. Gypsum buffers the ph and keeps the ph nutruel and adds texture. No Palletized will take months, even years to break down...There for lawns not for mycology. Also you want hydrated lime because its water soluble. The Lime you got is for composting more to less. You want Hydrated Lime. Get that and gypsum, either horticultural gypsum or dry wall gypsum .

planting/nursery store. The lady seemed to know what she was talking about, i explained that i needed hydrated lime which is calcium hydroxide, not dolomite lime which is calcium magnesium carbonate. She showed me 2 bags, one saying dolomite lime, the other saying calcitic lime. She said that this is the one more calcium based while the dolomite is more magnesium based. She also said that this is what is used to "sweeten the soil". i've heard people refer to hydrated lime in this way. i'm just wondering if this is a good bag of lime for using...packaging says:
calcitic lime natural plant nutriment (0-0-0) Ca 38%; Mg 0.6% an economical source of high calcium and pH adjuster
here's a pic, think this one's gonna work?
