colonization stopped on cake
    #809260 - 08/10/02 03:18 PM (21 years, 9 months ago)

okay I tried a dark rye flour pf cake and a new creeper syringe. The syringe had a black little clump of spores that wouldn't break up with shaking, and of course they got shot into the jar. In two days that whole 1/4 of the jar was colonized and 3 more little spots of mycelium showed up at the other 3 innoc points. A week later at 86 F nothing has changed. There is no discoloration, just bright white cottony myc. I had read that dark rye was supposed to colonize much faster than brf, but it just stopped for some reason. I used the exact same recipe as I do with brf just substituting drf. Anyway, What did I do wrong?

How about if I cut the colonized part of the cake off and crumble it in the bottom of a 1/2 cup tupperware container covered with coir, Kinda like FD's tea candle holder casing? Would it work out?

I have saved some dried jars before by injecting water with a CLEAN syringe and boiled water. As long as you work clean you should see good results, I did.
