fast wireless networking
    #8091848 - 03/01/08 10:18 PM (16 years, 2 months ago)

Alright guys, I'm coming to you all for some help.

I want to upgrade my wireless network. For a few years now I've been running off of a Linksys WRT54G running the ddWRT firmware. I have to admit, it has been great ever since i changed to the ddWRT firmware, but it is still not fast enough to stream HD content to my PS3...say a .mpg or .mp4 at 720p or 1080p without stuttering. These are usually single movies with file sizes in the 4-11GB range, so very high bitrate.

From what I've looked at so far, which I will admit isn't much, wireless-n is the fastest available at 300mbps. If I am wrong please correct me. Also, which router is a really good one? I don't mind spending up to 200, maybe a little more, as long as it is a rock solid piece of hardware capable of lasting for a few years, at least until something drastic happens to wireless technology.

Thanks

peace

whats up texas..

this seems ridiculous though.. why not just run a cable underneath the carpet or through the wall or something instead of spending $200.. it's easy to hide cables, you just have to be creative..

wireless is tight, but it's sketchy i wouldn't trust it to stream HD and shit.. or if i was gaming on xbox live.. plus it's a $100 adapter for the xbox.. i transcode via media center and dont usually have a problem (even with 1080) but i have mine wired..

you could probably pay someone to professionally wire it in your entire house for cheaper than 200.. i would do it for ya
