Can you empty the ash catcher? I'd be worried about it filling up.

Naw, you can't empty it, it will fill up eventually, then i'll have to figure out what to do...don't see it being a big deal though.

When make a similar pipe in the future, you might consider making the ash catcher out of a small, sturdy lightbulb. With some diligence and ingenuity you can remove the guts and clean a bulb while keeping the rest intact. Then you could simply attach an appropriate socket into your pipe, screw the bulb in and voila!
I don't know, just a thought.

I was trying to think of an idea myself for him to use in the future but you hit the nail right on the head my friend.

I was just thinking, once the glass bulb is filled with tar, i'll be able to stick a candle under it, and vaporize it! ha. I'll let everyone know if it pans out.
I've tried the bulb screw on technique before, but it doesn't work to well, also the socket ends up looking too bulky and wide, where i wanted thin smooth lines.
These tiny bulbs are extremely hard to work with, and it's almost necessary to epoxy around the perimeter of any holes, or else you will eventually get a crack that will just run rampant. I'm just hoping that this bulb will last a month, before i break it accidentally.
I need to start blowing glass....badly..so i can make some thick glass bulbs and tubes.
Also, the bulb is already turning brown, heh, it's only been like 2 days.
oh, and i could just toss some solvent in there, swish it around and dump it, should do the trick.

Yeah, I was going to say the glass looked kind of thin. Maybe rap the glass with wire so that the wires come together at the point the glass is set on. You could solder the wires to a metal sleeve around a glass sleeve attached to the bulb and have a smaller diameter glass sleeve inside the pipe with a rubber gasket around it. Then come up with a way for the pipe to grab the wires.
Thats kind of confusing so I drew a pic.
