NFL Free Agency
    #8090726 - 03/01/08 05:23 PM (15 years, 10 months ago)

I'm just going to go through some of the  big'uns.

Alan Faneca, perennial pro bowl guard goes to the Jets, who recently lost Johnathan Vilma to the Saints.
(they told him he could go anywhere but the Pats )

Cleveland Browns keep Derek Anderson, sign Donte Stallworth for seven years and pick up human mountain Shaun Rogers and Travis LaBoy.

Philadelphia Eagles pick up Asante Samuels and drop Jevon Kearse.

Jaguars lose Marcus Stroud to the Bills but pick up Drayton Florence from the Chargers, who's a beast, but not as bad ass as Cromartie.

Bears' Bernard Berrian goes to the Vikings.

Cincinnati's Justin Smith signs a big contract with the Niners, whose defense should eventually be decent with all the cash they're sinking in it.

John Lynch will play another season in Denver, because he cannot age.

Giants' defense heavily depleted as Reggie Torbor signed with the Miami Dolphins on Saturday. He follows ex-Giants LB Kawika Mitchell, who joined Buffalo, and S Gibril Wilson, who signed with Oakland.

Still up for grabs:
Michael "The Burner" Turner
Lance Briggs
Randy Moss
I think Marion Barber can be taken if a team outbids Dallas, but they'd have to give up first and third round picks or something.

Goddamn to Cleveland.

And as a Broncos fan first and foremost and as much as I like Lynch, fucking retire please.  He's so goddamn slow he acts a 4th linebacker in a 4-3 defense, making it a 4-4.  No!

For six years, no less.

Stallworth got seven years.
I don't think I agree with giving players long-term contracts off of free-agency, when you don't know how they'll work in the system.

well in football it doesn't matter because contracts aren't guaranteed (as they are in mlb). if he doesn't fit, they can cut him and he gets no compensation.

Anyone read that article on ESPN about Moss and Culpepper possibly playing together again? That'd be interesting.

Alan Faneca....fucking $40 million contract....

craziness. But he is worth the money. There are clips of him throwing down defensive tackles with one arm.

i agree actually

hutchinson's impact on a team's running game is profound.

It's like, look at Shaun Alexander's numbers before and after Huthinson left...

now look at the vikings. even Chester Taylor is looking like a pro bowler.

I also feel that Mike Turner may be a HUGE fantasy steal next year, depending on what team he lands on and if they give him enough play time.

But from the very few clips of him i've seen, the guy is fast as shit.

Turner to the Falcons

i think it was kind of a dumb move. Norwood is pretty frickin good, and atlanta's got alot more worries than running back.

That's a great pickup, I'd say
He's more of an every-down back than Norwood and at 230 plus he adds power that they've lacked since Duckett left.
They're probably looking at a four to five year transition, they've got to build up in drafts and free agencies for years to come, after a collapse like theirs.

Deal between Moss and Patriots "imminent."
Three years, 27 mill 12 guaranteed.

What?!? I didn't see anything about this on ESPN at all. WTH?? I hate that kinda crap. Briggs is a big time guy and I love watching him play.

Oh well, I guess even the bears can't mess 'em all up

Not free-agency news per sé, but Roethlisberger signed an eight-year $102 million contract with the Steelers.

I think they over paid Big Ben. No doubt he is a great QB, but with the 06 season being complete crap I dont think I would have given him that much money. He needs to prove that he can stay safe off the field when he is on his time.

What the fuck are the Bears doing? There's almost no WRs left.

They have 5 WRs right now under contract. Hass has played one down. The other guy hasn't played at all. Bradley and Davis usually get a bit of play each game. Last season was Hester's first season as a WR. The combined TDs last season of all of our recievers is 3, with their combined career TDs at a whopping 8. Not looking good.

Alot of that money is from him being UNDERPAID while winning a superbowl.

look at his previous contract and his accomplishements in the past 4 seasons.

I definately see that logic. But even so, it's a shit load of money for the guy. I am happy for him despite my utter tistaste for him but he is a great quarterback. I wish San Diego had a guy that could throw the ball like he does.
