I guess I should mention these were found under some blackberry bush, growing on wood chippings and loose tree bark on the edge of a forest. Near London.

One *more* thing the spore print seems to be dark brown to black.

I believe they are one type of fairy ring mushroom...can't remember which ones, could be edible...wait for other opinions before doing so.

Cheers

those look very much like psathys to me. i can't spell psathyrella but you get it. there are three species that grow near me, i can't tell them apart most of the time. the ones that grow here are not poisonous, as is true of most psathys. however, they arn't good eating, seemed to scratch the back of my throat.

in my early days of shroom hunting, i mistook some for pan-cyans. it's a wonder i'm alive to talk about it.

based on the color of the spore print, lack of blueing reaction, and the features of the mushrooms in the pic, i can positivly tell you that they are not active, so don't tempt fate don't eat them.

Ok thanks for the advice. I won't be eating them. I guess it's back to the country park again. Think I'll leave it till september october. Give those P Sems some time to sort themselves out.

I think tchyted is right; they look a lot like some Psathyrella candolleana that I found last week; truth is, they do contain trace amounts of psilocybin, but not enough to be considered active. The good news is, I found psathyrellas very near that place I find p.cyans in the PNW US. Perhaps you'll have better luck in the same place in a few months.

Hello chrispc,

What you have there is definately nothing that is of interest to any mushroom hunter looking for edibles, medicinal or psychoactive mushrooms.

You have what i would call "Fakes".

My first guess (and i have no identification books anymore),
would be "Dunce Caps".

BBUt, you are in England as you stated and i would suggest keeping a close eye on all the lawns that produce these and other mushrooms (on lawns).. those lawns should hopefully and eventually put out different and more interesting species of mushroom.

In as little as a couple weeks the lawns could be covered with an entirely different species of fungus that may or may not be of better interest for one searching for psychoactives.

Kool pictures thanks for sharing,
Keep on shroomin

Keep shroomin,
