orissa poor harvest..... Pics!!!
    #8086269 - 02/29/08 01:51 PM (16 years, 22 days ago)

He few weeks ago had some trouble with my first attempt.
result 1 brf cake equador in the bin
(could have saved it seems now)
1 Brf orissa , cased and first signs of myc breaking trough the casing layer after 12 days

Got a tip from a local grower that the cake I thought was dead could be easily revived by casing it, the simple mans method, dunk case and put in FC... hes had success that way.

Also some new cakes are inoculated, eq and oi, this time somewhat less wetter substrate and moved the incubator

just to see the difference
Ive used big glass jars & plastic containers (came with the starters kit)
the remaining drops of spore solution and some remaining substrate were transformed in mini teks (25g of substrate in a 50ml? glass jar)

now 2 weeks along all the cakes are well on their way.
Growth is different to my first attempt, looks like its growing white on the inside as well this time...... hard to explain. but had somebody look at it and looks fine so far
It is fun to see how different growth rate is though.
theyre in the same incubator, inoculated the same moment.
from the moment I could see myc (all jars the same day) until now.
glass jars 1 eq and 1 oi, oi is almost full grown, eq 1/10th
plastic jars, eq and oi 50%
1 plastic jar oi only grows on 1 side of the jar

mini jars 100% colonized twice as fast as the bigger jars
ideal if you want fast (poor) results
but if you have a lot of these little guys, you could try casing I suppose
(gone try me a mini casing as well)

hope to add pics in a week or so

have to case most of my jars somewhere this week..

my first "casing" looks nice
Hope I don't speak to soon, but it looks like a ok number of developing pins and e few aborts
1 pin is clearly bigger than the rest.
but so far the casing is pinning for 3 days and every day some more little shrooms pop up. started with 10 now about 20.... let's see if they all mature well

and pics, as soon as I know how to resize:confused:

wonder if substrate was to dry, or temp is just a little to low???
had a sudden change of wheather and the ok conditions in the room changed to somewhat colder (some 2-3C° drop)

let's call it sunday night / monday

the thing is I've monitored temp for a while now.
when the sun is really shining in the afternoon the temp raises few degrees above optimum, but being end winter that does't happen a lot now.

I've checked during freezing nights, mild daytime with sun etc etc. temperature stayed at optimum.

now it is not even freezing but since sunday night temp dropped a little.
because conditions were ok, didn't bother to install heating.... and now I'm not able to do so for a couple of days. I have this crappy tracing cable, that mildly heats, but just little to much. Ideal but no time to go to the shop and no extra thermocontroller at the moment

to me, they look like fruits going to tear immaturely and they are laden with bacterial blotch.

to me..........

yeah, me thought so as well.
I really thought Rv was way to low, so probably over did it with the misting. so shrooms stayed to wet to long.

Don't know if the are immature though, I guess just really small.

will update some pics when harvested, I've lowered humidity, last night.
this morning nothing, 8 hrs later I come back from work shrooms are visually bigger and all caps opened.

does printing them have any use, since it might have bacterial blotch. What I found out yesterday, have eaten it many times before. just thought it were some older gourmet mushrooms.

Nice grow! Very odd looking though. They have a very woodlover color, shape, and waxy texture. I like it. Good job.

........ why didn't I think of that

I'm pretty sure the main reason their odd looking is because of my mistakes.
But come to think of it, I bought a beginners kit with golden teacher.
Syringe said orissa

I didn't mind so only informed after the growth conditions, when I try to look if I can reorder orissa's.... the company I bought it from doesn't even sell orissa
oops since this week they do. (but when looking on their site no orissa pics so far and mine match the golden T a little.....)

made it sound very easy to my friends...
just wait one month and see... mhoehahahaaaa

end december I started with my first 2 cakes
sterility is key and the rest is peanuts.

shouldn't have spoken to soon.

nice to hear somebody thinks it's not blotch, just waterproblem
