Help.. the green is about to start
    #808520 - 08/10/02 09:35 AM (14 years, 9 months ago)

That familiar smell has been lingering for a few days and now the bright white is starting to come up... I know what this means, I'm about to get killed by the fucking Green shit.

Is there anything I can do? Should I transplant the uninfected areas to new pans? Should I add a cap full of bleach on top of the infected areas? Please post your suggestions. Thanks.

I did this with one of my last batches, there is some work involved but you can still get four or more flushes if you keep at it. I took a spoon sprayed it with lysol dug out the green shit, be carfull not to drop little pieces of soil onto the rest of the dirt or you will spread the contams. Spray the spoon after each scoop then when you think you have it all, this includes taking out some of the mycellium if need be. Replace the void with pasturzed soil and keep an eye on it , if it comes back do it again alot of work but you can get your mushies that way and the mushrooms will not kill you I at some out of that tray.

there is a tek that has recently come out of the cracks. in traditional edible mushroom cultivation, it is taboo to use bleach, kuz it kills some species, but correctly applied, it does not kill cubensis, so. . . .

load a syringe with straight bleach, and then drip it directly onto the mold colonies. if it is sporulating, you may need to rub it in with the end of the needle. be careful not to get too much on your mushroom mycelium. that's it.

the theory is that both mold and mushrooms have mycelial networks that web through your substrate. if you drip concentrated bleach onto any part of the network, it will be carried to the rest. thus it is possible to kill your mushrooms by dripping bleach on the wrong spot. BUT, if you get the bleach onto a spot that is obviously mold, then the mold mycelium will carry the poison throughout it's own web, killing off all the mold, but it is not transfered to your mushroom mycelium, in fact, it sets up the mold spot to be colonized by the mushroom mycelium. i've tried it with several species and it works.
