Tempeh
    #8038936 - 02/18/08 05:08 PM (16 years, 1 day ago)

I purchased some three grain tempeh at the store last night.
I love to eat it but have never attempted to cook with it.
Anyone have any really good recipes or suggestions on what to do with it?

This place by my house does a really awesome tempeh and cabbage and raisin curry salad.

It's hard to explain, and I don't have a recipe. But its really delicious, and I don't generally like meat substitutes.

I like to shake it in a bag with fish taco seasoning, then grill it on my George Foreman. I also grilled zucchini strips and sweet onions along with it. YUMMY!

It's also great crumbled up & cooked with burrito seasoning, then added to beans & veggies for a healthy burrito.

I tried the curried tempeh and it was quite delicious so here is the recipe
I added some frozen peas to it which turned out being a nice addition and I think next time I may add some scallions and maybe even some broccoli
I did not have Tamari so I substituted with soy sauce
I found it on http://www.tempeh.info/

Indonesian Curried Tempeh
Total servings: 4

Recipe ingredients

2 Tbs vegetable oil
250 g tempeh, cubed
2 red or green bell pepper, seeded, sliced
1 large sweet potato, diced
1 clove garlic, minced
1 onion, chopped
250 ml coconut milk
1 Tbs curry powder
1/2 cup fresh basil, chopped
2 Tbs tamari or shoyu

Recipe directions

Heat the oil in a large frying pan and fry the tempeh over medium heat until slightly browned.

Sauté the peppers, sweet potato, garlic and onion for ten minutes.

Combine tempeh and vegetables in the frying pan and add curry powder, coconut milk, basil, and tamari and cook over medium heat for about ten minutes.

Serve the Indonesian curried tempeh with rice.
