Hi, I lived in Hawaii for 11 years from 1986 to 1997.

While there I did a study of the mycoflora of the Hawaiian Islands. These mushrooms do grow on Kauai, quite prolifically and abundantly. Only after the proper weather conditions avail.

I picked shrooms near Port Allen on Kauai. At Hana, Makawao, Pai'a, Ho'okipa, and along Kula Highway above Kihei.

I also collected shrooms on Oahu Island for eight years. On the North Shore and the Kanaeohe side of the Island and on the big Island near Hilo.

Although I went to Kauai twice and didn't pick any shrooms, I personally know people who showed me their collections when I was there.

There are four Copelandia species in Hawai and Panaeolus subbalteatus.

On Maui at the 3000 meter level of Kula Highway, the Pn. subbalteatus get very big and very blue stems, something not noticed on sea level picked shrooms of the same species.

Amanita muscaria was recently discovered on Kauai in the Kokei Mountain RAnge growing under the much of imported flash pines.

Anyway you can check my book out at my web site
