Please, if you want stronger cultures let a contamed casing grow what ever tiny mushrooms it can. Culture them after that and they will be more resillient to contamination then before. I have a culture that has survived 10 contams and now it can fight off what ever I throw at it.
What if a noob had a casing and wanted to know what to do to save it and he came to this thread and said "Hell, yeah" and he goes back and tries just what you said, then a couple of days later he gets really ill and then his whole family gets sick, maybe He even dies,,,,,,,
Would it be a fucking funny joke then

mushrooms can have resistance to pathogens that attack the mushroom. Molds, and such are competing for resources not attacking the mushroom.
Some strains are better at competition then others. Some individual dikaryons are better then others from the same strain.
Exclusion is the best thing to do, for your health, the mushrooms health, and everyone elses.
These are cultivated mushrooms. You are their best defense.

thats gay man. you say something and then one someone disagrees with you, you try and play it off like it was a joke. lame.
i think there might be something to what you are saying, though. consider the pesticide industry. they create pesticides to kill off insects, but a small population survive and reproduce. these insects are resistant to the pesticide. thats why they have to keep concocting new substances to keep pests off crops. (9th grade biology skillz)
this is something like natural selection. i for one think it sounds feasible to use multispore on petri dishes and leave them out to purposefully contam, then if any myc survives and continues to grow, culture it again. once again, leave it out to purposefully contaminate and see if all of it, or a larger portion resists contamination (or at least whatever mold/bacteria contaminated it before).
just a thought. the chances of getting a multispore with some spores genetically resistant to some contams might be one in a million, but who knows, i havent tried it. have any of you?

This would probably result in the same thing: Mold spores in your home!
It takes a lot more time, to for a mushroom to "create" a Resistance to certain contams, if at all. For thousands of years mushrooms and molds fight for nutrients now, and don't you think the mushrooms would have already come up with a method to actually be resistant to molds, due to all the years of struggling?
If you want the strongest genetics possible for you to get, do isolating.
Only using the strongest and best growing parts of the developed mycelium is the maximum of genetic selection you can do. Well, and clones...

It seems most of you are missing the point. Mushroom strains don't contaminate. Substrates do.
If you want to duplicate nature, forget sterile culture and grow outdoors. INdoors, you need to sterilize spawn and pasteurize bulk substrates, and then hope your desired mycelium takes over the available food before contaminants.
Don't try to combine indoor and outdoor in the same grow or you'll deposit contaminant spores all over your house, which will make future grows more of a challenge. RR
