Yosterizii Pins
    #8073910 - 02/26/08 06:40 PM (16 years, 10 months ago)

W00t, finally seeing some pins. Been in the FC for approx 10 days now, and have some pins. The casing is 3qt rye cased with 50/50, from a multi-spore inoculation. And onto the pr0n:

They're popping up all over the damn place. Ok that's it, just wanted to post some porn, that's all I have for now though.

Yes, I got it from Ralph. I must say I'm pretty impressed with it, I've grown EQ once, actually the first variety I grew about 6 years ago. So, I don't really remember much about it.

My findings with yosterizii so far is it's a fast colonizer, and seems pretty contam resistant, but I keep it clean and work quickly, so who knows. I closed my eyes and pointed at the screen and came up with Yosterizii as my free STOM, lol, so that's actually why I tried it.

~2lb of rye in 3qts, soaked for 24 hours, simmered for 45 mins, then PC'd at 15psi for an hour. Substrate depth is about 3.5-4inches with a casing layer no thicker than 1/2inch. The pan the casing in is about 12in long, maybe 7-8 wide and about 5.5-6inch deep, so a rather large pan.

This was my first time jumping back in, in over 5 years, so I just wanted to go with what was easiest to get and use. Rye was $1 for what I needed and then some, and it works for me.

/rant Why is it that every time anyone says some kind of substrate is good, you have tons of posts following saying why CC, Rye, WBS, Popcorn, etc are so damn bad, I just don't understand it. Anyway, not directed at you, just something I noticed while doing some research on trying to find out what to use next (leaning towards WBS 'cause its easy to get a huge bag, and less people complain than CC and the other alternatives). As I said, not directed at you or anyone, just something I noticed (just do a search and look at all the WBS vs Rye, CC vs WBS vs Rye, etc, etc crap you see and how many of those threads are just pages of people going back and forth bashing one in favor of the other /end rant - lol

Anyway, enough with that bull shit, on to an update. I started seeing some pins open up and reveal their viel, even beginning to tear on one of them. They seem fairly small, but I doubt it's lack of FAE, I just can't help but to go and look at them, and each time I give them a fan and a light mist. Hopefully they pack on a little more size before they're all ready.

still got more laying around.. i wonder what i am doing wrong.

it's organic, too..

For sure. I am no longer using rye. I have had bad luck too.

No pictures (for right now), but I did a little harvesting. Got 55g wet off the biggest and most mature fruits, leaving quite a bit to grow a little bigger for tomorrow or whatever. Certainly not as much as I was hoping for, but we'll see what the rest of the first flush has to offer, and what a nice 24 hour dunk can do for the 2nd flush.

The sides of the tray are holding in CO2. Try either folding or cutting the sides so that it's down to the substrate level. I think the sides is the cause for the small fruits and this should help produce bigger fuits.

Good idea, makes a lot of sense. Went ahead and cut off the sides, we'll see if that makes a difference.

First flush dry weight of 29grams. Thats about 25 grams pictured, used 40 wet the other day to make a tea.

Fruits were extremely small, but pretty potent. I cut back the sides of the casing trey and it did seem to make a difference for the 24 hours or so before harvest. Right now the casing is draining after a 24 hour soak in the fridge.

This time around I'm going to take it out of the trey and leave it all sides exposed with a nice layer verm around the whole thing, hopefully see some big ones this flush.

Here's a small update.

The first image is the whole casing, nothing special about it, just time for an update. After harvesting I dunked the casing in the fridge for 24 hours, and re-cased upside-down from the way it was in the aluminum pan. There was also a lot of small pins and stubs that I couldn't get off that we're broken and I was a bit worried about them contaming, and cut off a thin layer of the now bottom (what was the fruiting surface before) and made sure there was nothing that could start to rot and fuck up this flush. Put a thin layer of moistened verm down, flipped it over and put it in the glass pan, covered the top and sides with more moist verm and placed in the FC. I noticed the first pin today, in the second picture.

Could just be wishful thinking, but that pin already looks thicker than any of the ones from the first flush, I certainly hope so.

That's the first pin that showed up a in my last update, that picture is a couple days old. Lookin' pretty nice right there.

There's an overhead shot of the fairly uneven pinset, as you can see there's a small cluster in the same spot as the first pin, and pretty much all the larger mushrooms are growing out of the side, rather than the top.

Just a close up of the first mushroom taken today with a few others around it. It's off to the right and more in the shade, if you notice the one in the middles cap is shaped like an ass.

Kinda looks like Marilyn Monroe's ass

It must not be fruiting because the bottom which is now the top never got any light. I wonder if the bottom which used to be the top is still fruiting? I wonder if there are lots of unused nutrients in the bottom there normally, and eventually there will be a nice flush? Keep us posted.

I got it from ralphsters, if thats what you mean. But I believe it was just isolated from EQ by someone either on these forums or another. Since that's waht you probably meant.

As for bottom pinning, there is one point with 2 mushrooms that I noticed the other day, but they are really small and no others have been noticed. Now that this side has been exposed to light for a week it's pinning pretty nicely right on top.

No pictures for this last update, but I just finished harvesting the last mushrooms on this casing's second flush. A little over 200g but some were a little water-logged dried out to less than 8-10% dry. Got 160 the other day that dried to 14.5, and just a little more today about 40g, well see the dry weight tomorrow probably.

They were really small again this time, but some were much larger than ever in the first flush. Interesting strain, but it's time to move on. I'm preping some 3.5lb of organic rye right now for 6qt jars to use to spawn to WTS nutriboom for my first bulk attempt using a mono-tub. Going with this PESA syringe I have laying around, I'm pretty excited to get started. I plan to post a growlog or some pictures along the way.
