ok im sure there are PLENTY of posts about this but mine is pretty case specific...i took them off the stove at 5PM and let them sit at room temp for about an hour then set them outside for about an hour and its like 20F degrees outside and was wondering if i let them sit in room temp for about another 2 hours if it should be ok? the outside of my metal pot that i steam sterilized them in felt cool to the touch even on the bottom after only an hour at room temp(ik the jars were still probably very hot inside at this point but itll be a while from then still when i innoc)

Great job! You might have sucked in contams, setting them outside to rapid cool like that.
You need PATIENCE with this hobby.

just wait 12 hours, the jars might be cool to the touch but the crap inside it is still hot.
yes i know this that is exactly why i said i know the stuff inside was still hot...it doesnt take 12 full hours to cool...expecially if i had them sitting at 20F for a while

I agree with 'endepth'. Don't refrigerate or anything like that. Allow them to cool at room temperature and be patient.

Ask yourself that same question,
Think, that if they are too hot, what will happen,
Then answer that question yourself.
Not to sound like an ass, but why take a chance? They aren't going to be fully colonized t'moro are they? That's one thing this hobby teaches you-patience.
If you feel like they are cool enough then do it-I did a couple of times before I got it right ,lol.

the cool thing about puting them outside and the possible rapid heat loss was in increased amount of contams that were probably sucked in. Good job on screwing up so early in the game

So here's your setup paraphrased "So I did this thing that nobody else has done and most people consider a bad idea. Tell me if I did good or not?"...How about you just knock up the jars and if they contam you did wrong else it doesn't matter.
