no colonization; cooked the brf?

A while back I started a pf tek using bob's red mill brf. Full colonization never happened. I went to stay with my parents for the summer and left them at my apartment for about a month. I had my buddy bring them to me and they weren't colonized at that point. I knew they had gone bad. I PC'd them for 45 minutes and everything looked normal. I've done a successful pf tek about 3 times now. What I'm thinking is that maybe my PC has a leak and most of the water evaporated, thus cooking my brf to the point of having no nutritional value. I remember seeing very little water left after the initial sterilization. I followed directions pretty well. I'm about to start a pf tek within a week or so and don't want to make the same mistake, whatever that may have been. Any ideas? Is cooking the brf too long a common thing? Thanks for reading.

i've been trying the PF tek with bob's red mill BRF and have gotten NOTHING to grow. i tried both steaming and PC'ing with no results. my 2 cents. but i did get myc to grow with rye from the same syringe. go figure.

Just to add some more info about this project.
-Fine vermiculite was used -Measurements were precise -Sterilization was, at least good -Spores were a little older and some had been used already (with leftover solution in them). -Had trouble innoculating (plunger would get stuck and by pushing too hard would shoot way too much solution into each injection site). -Jars kept to incubate in a dark drawer with temps between 70 and 82 degrees. -Cakes semmed to have a darker color after initial sterilization process and looked "cooked."
I think i've narrowed my problem down to that, I just don't understand how that works when I followed water-level directions to a T, as well as my cook times.

Hmmm. I'm a little weary of this Bob's red mill stuff. People seem to have some sort of success with it. I'm going to have to go to an organic place and get the good stuff. Thanks for the feedback man.

This grow that I'm asking the questions about was the first time I've ever used the stuff. I was thinking about using it on the next grow but why even chance it? In this last, unsuccessful one there was a minescule amount of white growth (for all I know, it could've been cobweb). But to answer it bluntly, no, never made any shrooms using Bob's.

interesting. i've been seriously wondering about that. thanks for the confirmation.
you really oughta go with the rye TEK. the rye is cheap and you have a pressure cooker. no reason to mess with PF cakes at all. i know i am done with them.

No problem man. Good luck in your future, non-Bob's growing.

ok, i owe bob's an apology. i just looked at the stuff and EVERYTHING is showing growth. it all popped up overnight, since yesterday. i am thinking that the previous issues were due to spores from a different vendor.
anyway, the BRF from bob's old mill is just fine by me.
