NIDcommand - I got the Glock for home protection. I live in the not-the-best neighborhood in Norfolk, VA - so it makes me feel secure at night. It is quite nice to have around. It sits on my bedside table, in plain view, fully loaded.
Also - the glocks don't have external safety's, so if the trigger is pulled - it will shoot.
People get all worked up about the safety concerns regarding such a situation - but in reality, if NOBODY PULLS THE TRIGGER then it won't shoot. Simple.

ahh, yea glocks are nice too, i have a revolver for home protection. I know glocks are known to be very dependable, but you never know and when you life is on the line i want to know my gun is going to fire. And there will never be a jam, if it doesn't fire the fist time pull the trigger again and BOOM. High stress situations are never good for trying to un-jam a gun. the one thing that worries me about owning a gun for home use is the possibility over over penetration, i live with my family so if(god forbid) i ever needed to use it i don't want my bullet going threw the bad guy and into a loved one. know what i mean......people under estate the power of a 9mm at close range

What revolver? When I turn 21 I plan to ask my father for his .38 special to shoot for recreation, but I'll get either a .45 1911, .40, or 9mm for self defense.

NID i know what you're sayin about the jamming - but in reality it doesn't happen that often, and when it does - it's usually due to poor form, not any fault of the weapon itself.
I just like the size, shape, and feel of a semi-auto, as opposed to the revolver. My dad has a .38 special aswell, he loves it - just not for me. I got 15+1 capacity, and i LOVE it when i'm at the range

If you're using decent ammo and you clean your pistols properly they won't jam. I just really like the .38 special. Why do you think the police used it for so long? It's fucking solid.

Very true, a friend of mine has a glock and i LOVE it. It is a very nice gun for the range/home/collector. Do you own any other guns?

I hadn't even heard of that caliber. Apparently it packs more of a punch than the .44 magnum too. Do you need protection from bears or something? God damn. I think I would like to be shooting at things a little bit farther away than the .454 would allow, especially for self defense.

i use ear plugs all the time, but if i wasn't it would be LOUD. and i went with the .454 because IF someone ever was in my house i want to make sure that if i have to use my gun it will stop them, .22's are way to small and 9mm are nice i own a 9mm as well(beretta). But like i said before i think the revolver is a better choice for home use then a simi on the off chance there was a jam or some other problem.

I'd almost be afraid to shoot it. The noise it makes after being fired is probably enough to scare most people away anyway. Just use blanks!

I don't know anything about guns and I've only shot one once when I was a child. I decided to get one because guns have always been such unfamiliar territory to me.
Got a cleaning kit, disassembled the gun, gave it an initial cleaning, and learned about how it works this morning.
Is there anything else I should know, besides the obvious? I would like to go out shooting some cans in the desert today.
1. Always treat the gun as it were loaded with safety off, even if you KNOW it isn't.
2. Always keep chamber unloaded, safety on, and finger off trigger until ready to fire.
3. Make sure you have sufficient backstop to stop the bullets, they travel long distances. .22 can travel up to 1-1.5 miles before hitting the ground.
be safe.

um look at the US, having guns legal makes it ten fold easier for 'outlaws' to obtain guns your point?

man, i have seen two guns in my life, and they were both pallet guns. i'm not saying that they aren't around, or that they aren't in the wrong hands, i'm just saying that they are a hell of a lot less common here than in america.
and aiyobro not everyone has mafia contacts.

That is a flat out lie. Sure, it's easier for criminals to acquire guns if they're legal, but if they're smart they wouldn't be using those guns to commit crimes in the first place. Making guns illegal would only keep guns out of the hands of people who use them for self defense and recreation.

no. it makes people like me more able to protect ourselves from the outlaws.
people dont realize that guns are there. the black market isnt going to shut down and stop all sales once guns are illegal. all it will do is keep guns out of law abiding citizen's reach.
there is still gun crime in EVERY single country where guns are outlawed.
